• I deal with post-SSRI sexual dysfunction and it sucks

Has anyone ever been on SSRI's for a long while, then stopped? SSRI's were like the main drug of choice for my depression since I was around 12 or 13, and unfortunately they took a toll on me over the years since I am now almost 21. I'm off of them now, because well, would you continue taking drugs that kill your libido and shoot your dick (or vagina) to hell? I didn't think so. I'm trying to talk to my doc about a substitute I can take, since I still have clinical depression and what not (hint, it never goes away). From what I have gathered, I might have Post-SSRI sexual dysfunction I have a few of the classic symptoms, such as ejaculatory anhedonia, occasional anorgasmia, and weakened penile sensitivity, among others. At first I thought the problems were based on that I was prematurely born. I had the idea that my nerve endings were not fully formed because of my extreme insensitivity to pain. I don't feel or perceive pain like a normal person does. However this also applies to my penis. No matter what girl touches it, sucks on it, or who's vagina it goes in, I don't feel it. Pretty much at all. Sometimes I can't even feel if it's in. Usually that would be a "that's what she said" but in this case, that's what he said." This has ruined a few good relationships because I wasn't so keen on sex. It never really meant much to me since I couldn't really feel it physically. I barely felt an orgasm, if I even did. I didn't feel anything on my penis, with or without condoms, or "sexual enhancing lubrication" products. It really sucks dick (which is a good descriptor for me because someone sucking my dick should feel good, but it doesn't, so it sucks dick). What sucks even more is that no one ever told me about these side effects that would continue even when I am off the drug. I am really tempted to file a claim against some of the shrinks because it has pretty much killed my love life. Problem is, I don't know any of the ones from a while ago when I was first given them.
Pharmaceutical industry is a bitch and doctors go with it. They prescribe really awful drugs to kids with depression, ADHD, ADD, etc. :(

I wasn't sexually active then nor thinking about it. My generation really didn't become sexually active at the ages that kids these day are. I want to say it's sad, but I will just accept the change for what it is and move on. But I don't get me started on the big pharma companies. They produce treatments, not cures. The technology exists to create the cures, but no. They rather drag on the person's miserable life with whatever horrible disease they have in order to squeeze every last dime from their poor pockets before they die. Such is the life of capitalism.

Read that as Post Sexual Dyslexia.
Oh fuck I take those too... fuck...
Okay, this confuses me a bit. The other relationships I left because they wanted sex but I didn't. Shit sucked. The good (but may be bad too) part of the dysfunction is that it helps me become more emotionally closer when in relationships. Although I have high standards for looks, I do also care about their personality and I get very emotionally attached since the physical part is mostly out of the question.
Read that as Post Sexual Dyslexia.
It's funny because you misread the title as dyslexia
Read that as Post Sexual Dyslexia.
Great excuse why you can't pay the hooker... you will end up reading the bill denomination wrong and give her "not enough" money.
is there no way to treat it?

Aren't there certain kinds of surgeries that can increase the sensitivity of nerve endings? Maybe not, but I remember hearing that somewhere. I do feel bad for you, but hey, at least you'll get a lot more done without your libido as a distraction, right?
is there no way to treat it?
Not sure. I'm not a doctor. This drug dealer I know is telling me to take ecstasy.

How long have you been off the drug? And how long were you on?

btw dude did u ever stop those stinky farts of urs? i heard that was kind of bad when it came 2 pleasin the ladies maybe u cant get any satisfaction cause theyre so utterly fucking disgusted by the smell pouring out of your butthole note: THIS IS ALL BASED ON FACT IM NOT JUST FLAMIN IM SERIOUSLY CONCERNED [editline]20th April 2011[/editline] or maybe another alien is stoppin u from pitchin a tent?
Prozac for a few years, then Zoloft for another few, and a few others I forgot about. They were mostly on and off until I was 18, then they switched me to another class of anti depressants. I stopped taking that because I'm a knuckle head. Then my insurance expired, so I was recently switched to a new plan, now I'm waiting to find a new shrink. Problem is, all the shrinks in my area (I called about 15 before I gave up) are not accepting new patients, and the new provider I'm with doesn't have any open appointments with their own internal providers.

SSRI's can also induce suicidal morbidity from what ive been taught. if your looking for a long term cure, ECT is the only known cure BUT its not known why it works.
I don't feel or perceive pain like a normal person does.
that is pretty badass
that is pretty badass
first time ive ever heard somebody call the inability to cum badass but w/e each to his own
Master117, I suggest you look into SNDRIs, which can be boiled down to taking prozac whilst on coke, which would be advantageous to someone who has dulled experiences (assuming that it is a CNS issue, and not a PNS or psychosomatic one). I'm not sure whether they've been approved for humans yet, so you probably buy a few kilos of the stuff from China. Alternately, you could try your typical SSRI with an NDRI, or something of the sort, such as ritalin, or coke or what have you. MDMA (though it would probably end up being a compound of MDx family) is a SNDRI, though not an overwhelming 'strong' one. Worth a try, I suppose. You should be careful though. Actual advice: Talk to a doctor (preferably neuro specialist if you have the cash) about serotonin-norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitors. Assuming the dullness in sensation is a result of lack of the necessary neurotransmitters, that is. Alternately enrol yourself in a DARPA study and tap a car battery to your head, and become the smartest man alive. Maybe not, but I remember hearing that somewhere.
Is it the sensitivity of the nerves, or the lacklustre interpretation/transmission of these signals in the central nervous system that's the problem?
