Why do cartoon characters wear gloves? Discuss.
To prevent leaving fingerprints.
To prevent leaving fingerprints.
lol criminals
They're easier to animate and need less detail.
they're stylish
They're easier to animate and need less detail.
but you can still see those in recent cartoons
Animators are lazy.
Animators are lazy.
but they still use them in 3D movies and cartoons (mickey mouse clubhouse lolz)
mickey mouse still has them because it's his character design.
Cartoons, like caricatures, like to exaggerate the important parts of characters: generally faces, eyes and hands. Since our hands are rather complex, the fingers thin, and there's little room in a cartoon, they're not coloured and the amount of fingers is often decreased for additional clarity. [editline]11:21AM[/editline] But mostly this is a remnant of times when cartoons were all black and white.
Funny thing is, Mickey started without gloves :v:
And he wondered why he couldn't evade any of his crimes until he wore gloves.
they're stylish
to other people who are unstylish maybe.
Funny thing is, Mickey started without gloves :v:
Then when they started making more complex and colorful cartoons they decided to invent his gloves so it wouldn´t take that time... lol
I think Mickey wears gloves now to add a little contrast to his completely black body, and because completely black fingers would just show up as a big black mess when holding something.
The only cartoon I know where the characters wear gloves is South Park. And their gloves are more detailed then their hands anyway.
The only cartoon I know where the characters wear gloves is South Park. And their gloves are more detailed then their hands anyway.
i think you dont understand what we mean...
The only cartoon I know where the characters wear gloves is South Park.
You don't know a lot of cartoons then.
I think it began with the reasons people mentioned above about it being easier to animate and what not, and the reason they keep it on mickey/goofy etc is that it became part of that characters image and they didn't wanna change that. That's probably why the new recent characters don't have gloves, where as new cartoons made with the classic characters kept them.

why not
It could also be to make them more human-like and like-able, since animal hands would make them a little less like-able, and regular hands would be just weird. A glove doesn't look too animal-like, and isn't too weird (I mean most of them wear other clothes too).

Because its cliche.
Only happened like twice.
And then someone had to go and blow up the moon!
And then someone had to go and blow up the moon!
iBlewupthemoon is availible in Dragonball Z's universe? Awesome. [editline]09:22PM[/editline] Plus, Mario wears gloves. That's because hands would be too tricky to fit into 8-bit characters.
