Doesn't it strike you as odd and more than a little ironic that the US military, the Marine Corps especially, have performed virtually every other sort of operation under the sun except for honest national defense? The US hasn't been attacked by any sort of foreign force with the intent of invasion since it's founding as an independent nation. As much as Ermey can scream and berate, he's full of shit. Also, it was Bush who fucked the economy. Ermey fails at politics. Man, so many people I used to like have terrible politics. The fuck do you expect though? He was a Marine Corps drill sergeant, they come from a specific type of mindset. And they let these people have guns. I weep for the nation.

I don't want to preach politics, but it hasn't been exactly fixed in any sort of visible form; at least in the area I'm living in. On the other note about guns, that's both the military and Constitution. To go on a quick tangent about said Constitution, they wanted civilians to own guns. Period. Sure, maybe not every John Doe deserves a tank or a paramilitary machine gun, but at least something that he is capable of defending himself, his homestead and his nation with. Considering that America was founded on the revolt of an unpopular government, it seems to make sense that they'd put in a provision basically stating: "[I]Hey, we know we're not perfect, so if we, government, really fuck shit up, please revolt and overthrow us.[/I]" [sp]Not that I think we're any-fucking-where near that level right now.[/sp]

I don't trust someone who does not afford to do rudimentary research in to the most fundamental aspects of contemporary politics with ensuring my continued freedom against external threats. You shouldn't either. He is not well informed, and it means more likely than not he will make incorrect decisions. Decisions involving a rifle tend to be life-and-death decisions. If you'll remember, the recession began way back in 2007, before Obama's election even took place. That means for the 'current administration' to have had any hand in it, Obama would have to be able to travel through time. That is an oversight so monumental, fucking rudimentary and easily checked that I can only assume Ermey didn't even bother to, which says quite a few things about him regarding his view of facts that rightfully troubles me. Can any of you answer for that?

As far as I can remember, they haven't exactly risen up as a sole sentient entity and followed their own whims. Ever. The Armed Forces as a whole are told what to go out and do by the government. They can request to do something, but they don't act as hand-with-it's-own-mind. Tangent time: People who I really don't want to see with guns? Suburban kiddos. People who deserve guns, but don't get them? Background-checked, law-abiding citizens in high-crime cities.
