The documents date primarily from the late 1940s and 1950s. To help navigate the vast amount of data contained in our FOIA UFO collection, we’ve decided to highlight a few documents both skeptics and believers will find interesting. Below you will find five documents we think X-Files character Agent Fox Mulder would love to use to try and persuade others of the existence of extraterrestrial activity. We also pulled five documents we think his skeptical partner, Agent Dana Scully, could use to prove there is a scientific explanation for UFO sightings.
source the handpicked ones are in the source, here is a direct link to the released documents
Ah very cool
Ah very cool
The catalogue seems to be though.
Not a whole lot of interesting stuff. Just claims of UFO sightings from random civilians.
Here i was about to make an X-Files reference but got ninja'd by the shitting CIA Pretty interesting though, however I doubt if they did have anything truly damning that they'd release it, FOIA or otherwise

Or maybe they're just releasing them to do it.
"We have a small problem. They've reopened the X-Files."
There's no doubt in my mind that we're not alone. How could we be when our universe is so vast with so many other planets outside our solar system that are orbiting their very own suns? There has to be other forms of life somewhere out there and it really wouldn't surprise me if they're more advanced and have visited us. There's been plenty of unexplained events that would support it and even ancient hieroglyphs depicting beings coming down from the sky. I've seen some pretty crazy shit with my own two eyes that I couldn't make any sense of other than it being extraterrestrials. I think our governments know more then they're telling us and it's only a matter of time before they make themselves known and it can't be denied anymore. I just hope that when it happens it'll be peaceful and we don't get into some insane war with them. If they've got the ability to travel across galaxies then there's a good chance they've got more advanced weapons then us.

I wonder what that could possibly be?
I've seen some pretty crazy shit with my own two eyes that I couldn't make any sense of other than it being extraterrestrials.
Why not call it God? If your reasoning is 'I don't know what that was therefore it was (x)' there are plenty of spurious ways you could fill in the blank.
I've seen some pretty crazy shit with my own two eyes that I couldn't make any sense of other than it being extraterrestrials.
Unfortunately, most UFO stories are laced with confirmation bias like this. "I can't identify what that is. IT MUST BE ALIENS." The Drake equation concludes that there must be other life somewhere in the universe. But it's another thing entirely to suggest that a sentient interstellar-capable species would come here, of all places, to kidnap rednecks for kinky sex games and freak out the local fauna with spaceships that look conveniently like depictions of alien ships from 60s scifi.
conveniently like depictions of alien ships from 60s scifi.
to be fair, those depictions were based on reports that existed before their depiction in the media
But it's another thing entirely to suggest that a sentient interstellar-capable species would come here, of all places, to kidnap rednecks for kinky sex games
You saying you wouldnt?
and freak out the local fauna with spaceships that look conveniently like depictions of alien ships from 60s scifi.
Well i mean, we kind of got that from UFO sightings. And Roswell.

enjoy combing through FOIA's fucking shambolic catalog and call system
Can I have that but legible please. Did someone transcribe it by chance?
I can transcribe the body of it, this was submitted in April 1966
On file in the CIA Library is an exploitation report on a metallic fragment approximately 2"x2"x1", recovered near Korokono(sic), Republic of the Congo. The fragment was recovered by ground search after a UFO fell to earth in the area. The report concludes that the fragment was originally part of an electrical component and was constructed of 0.010-inch thick silicon-steel laminate.
did they publish a glossary for this release
out of all the ones i've perused so far this is the most intriguing
"Silicon-steel laminate." Are they talking about integrated circuits? If so those weren't used in widespread use in aircraft during 1966. That's really odd.
You saying you wouldnt?
For all we know, alien ships could be wandering amalgamations of life support and virtual reality, immersing its inhabitants in a virtual world where everything is provided and their bodies live for a relative eternity in vats of goop. However, even heaven would get boring if things stay the same forever, so if there were actual alien abductions, maybe the "studying" part was done to gain inspiration for culturally-exotic content patches? Though I still think that most "alien" abductions were perhaps misremembered kidnappings and the like, where the minds of the victims tried to protect them from the true horror of what was happening to them. Don't get me wrong, it's still plausible that a wandering extraterrestrial intelligence would be interested in a native sapient species (especially in a universe where worlds like ours would be like an oasis in the desert), and might even go as far as to pacify and briefly study isolated specimens before letting them come around on their own (like how scientists tag and study rare wild animals), but I still feel like random earthly kidnappings are the more common occurrence. But back on-topic, it's pretty cool that there apparently were actual saucers back then. Whether they were actual alien ships or indeed prototype stealth aircraft, it's neat that we've finally got some more declassification.
Why not call it God? If your reasoning is 'I don't know what that was therefore it was (x)' there are plenty of spurious ways you could fill in the blank.
I witnessed an orb of bright light shooting down from the sky at 5:30 in the morning on my way out the door for work. Normally I would just dismiss it as a meteor and move on if it weren't for the fact that it was heading directly towards another bright orb of light that was just hovering out over the ocean when there wasn't a star in the sky. I stood there and watched both of them until they got close to each other and then both of the orbs just vanished... I wouldn't call that god even if I believed in one and I wasn't the only one that watched it happen.

Helicopters seems plausible, but they'd probably have to be pretty far away so you couldn't hear the thrumming of the rotors.

Even in the Bible it talks about a flaming chariot in the sky. Sci-Fi has always been around! I just think it's a bit odd that 'alien UFO' reports only really became a thing once we started flying. Actually it's not odd at all
here is a bibliography of soviet research into parapsychology and telekinetics for good measure
Curious how to made it into the CIA's hands when it was originally in the Congo. They didn't exactly like the U.S in 66
If there is one thing I learned from X-Files, is that the government has people everywhere. But seriously, they have people everywhere.
Whenever I hear about UFOs the x-files theme plays in my head.
