So after watching a shitload of videos from this game, it feels like I need to play it.
That was a super good recreation
Wow they even did the different endings. I am very impressed.
I sometimes wish that Yager made a new game similar to Spec Ops: The Line, but on a different topic. [t]http://cdn.cgmagonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Specops3.jpg[/t] [t]https://jamescomments.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/3-4-specops-loading-3.png[/t] god fuck'n a man.
So after watching a shitload of videos from this game, it feels like I need to play it.
I feel like this vid about the ending scene is a preeetty big spoiler for a game that basically stands on it (gameplay is pretty bland), so you may not enjoy it at this point. You might get more context that makes this ending scene click more, but it's kinda like explaining a joke after you've heard it; it rarely makes it funny. Imo the only worthwhile thing "explaining" about Spec Ops (after you've seen this ending scene) is the interpretation that Konrad was breaking the Fourth Wall and actually asking the player why they kept playing the game and kept following the protagonist into madness - to feel like a hero, according to him. Tho I guess that only really holds up if the player went in expecting another heroic modern military shooter as was commonplace back then, not so much if you're just in to find out why the hell everyone's praising the game's story. I wonder if they wanted to pull the same rug under the players' feet twice.
I love this freaking game. Really happy someone re-created this scene in SFM. My only regret is not seeing the conclusion that happens afterwards!

Really loved this game. Though I imagine if one would play it today all impact would be lost.

Great soundtrack with great art direction, game's definitely worth at least one playthrough.
So after watching a shitload of videos from this game, it feels like I need to play it.
It's absolutely fantastic. The gameplay is a bit generic but the Story is absolutely impressive.
also subtle changes like adam's lines becoming more insane sounding than professional throughout the game.

As far as narrative games go, Spec Ops is one of my absolute favorites. The way it ties in with the surge of heroic power fantasy modern military shooters and how it used peoples expectations to increase the impact of the tonal shifts just gave me genuine joy that there is a shooter that acknowledges and dissects what was (and still is) happening in FPS gaming at the time.I just had this 'Finally someone made a game like tha' reaction and maybe I especially liked it because what happens throughout the story is exactly the kind of thing I found myself imagining as 'wouldn't it be cool if'-s in those 'other' shooters. What if the dumb, shallow premise was just there to lure you in and hit you over the head with actual moral conflict? What if the protagonist is actually impacted by all the horrible shit they do. What would happen if you acknowledge that the generic 'American FPS Hero'-characters double-standard morality code would inevitably result in either deep denial and eventually delusion or in crushing realization. It just blew my mind that a game actually did ALL those things I've always wanted to see in a modern military shooter. It's not often that gaming turns to reflect on the standards of its storytelling and turns into serious discussion. For the most part, this stuff is limited to bloggers with barely enough brain cells to not forget to breathe trying to be relevant by complaining about characters asses or something similarly stupid and shallow. Its true that Spec Ops leans heavily on The Heart of Darkness but its really much more than a gimicky re-imiagining because it has genuine purpose and relevance in the context of the medium as a whole. Spec Ops is really more of a statement than a game, a deconstruction of the standards of a genre. The gameplay itself is pretty generic, but then again, that's the point. It's all the little details that make the game great, like how your character gradually becomes more violent and savage when he gets into close-quarter fights. While he snaps necks and punches faces cleanly and professionally in a spray of spittle during the early chapters, his kills gradually become more visceral as he gets more unhinged. While he uses pseudo military sounding phrases to communicate during combat early on, gradually gets more emotional and angry and you slowly start to feel like you're just not in control anymore, like all you can do is to try and prevent or delay whatever calamity this crazed, delusional stranger you control might cause next. Its one of the few games that actually hold genuine artistic value

Surprised he's not been picked up by a studio yet.
This game's ending is just perfect. while I have kinda already knew what's going to happen half way through the game, the ending still shocked me a lot due to this conversation, it's just impressive.

[sp] Yet all of them could be false. You died helicopter crash at the start of the game and your just repeating the events of that day over and over again in purgatory / hell, everything that happens after that crash never happened. There's a lot of things which point to this really being the case, walker openly saying that the scene feels familiar the second time around and that all the cutscenes after that crash go white instead of black and of course the lead developer saying that's what happened. What i really love about that ending is that Konrad, Adams and Lupo might all still be alive and the mission finished another way. But as you died you'll never know, instead you 'live' with the bad endings forever[/sp]
So after watching a shitload of videos from this game, it feels like I need to play it.
Sorry bud, but Team Fortress 2 lost its flavor in 2011. Should have joined earlier because now it's just one big circus.
So after watching a shitload of videos from this game, it feels like I need to play it.
TBH, the entire thing of the game is walking in expecting a common TPS like me and my brother did. Seeing all the twists before playing it removes a lot from the experience, and will just result in you playing a standart TPS. So it might not be a good experience for you to play it now.

Even people saying "the gameplay sucks but it's worth it for the story" kinda ruins it, I think, because even the generic gameplay is part of the central conceit. It's the only game I know of that has the balls to ask at the end "So what was the point of playing this?" and I love it for that.

Just make it looks like a simple generic shooter but with a big plot twist at the end
