Extremely entertaining watch, my favorite of these animated shorts so far.
The style and polish of the animation is suburb.

What do suburbs have to do with this animation

Well, I just start thinking that, at a certain point, there are only so many stories you can make for characters.
It's still pretty good.
Also, Solid Snake vs Grey Fox
That was amazing
Still can't really get over the writing, but the animation is top fucking notch.

Blizzard in a nutshell.
I love the way when Genji landed behind Hanzo he barely made a sound, little details like that are neat. Hanzo's facial animations were top notch too.

I quite liked Genjis facial animations.
I thought the point was they're supposed to be cliché stories.
Like Reaper will no doubt have some edgelord "I am death fear me" story to him.

He made an edit with footage from the official one

Loving these shorts, though I imagined that the two were related before the short. Call it a hunch. Imagine a gameplay feature where two ultimate would either cancel each other out or dominate the other player depending on the characters.

right in location, and i guess the reason for going, but was kinda wrong about everything else
like, basically everything after the start is wrong, genji isn't being repentant at all, it's hanzo who is pretty damn guilt-ridden and in the wrong

It still shows how shit blizzards writers are :v:

Reaper was some experiment gone wrong, that gives him the ability to dematerialize and turn into smoke, as we've seen.
But he IS a huge edgelord indeed.
Further into his backstory, its revealed that he's a terrorist assassin with no side, that kills everyone leaving just their corpses with grim appearances, who now hunts for Overwatch operatives.
The generic "super assassin who's stronger than everyone else and who kills everyone and bla bla"

Nah man Reaper's story is that he's an insecure brat who couldn't handle Jack Morrison (Soldier 76 way back when) being better than him and promoted to boss over him, so he ripped the Overwatch organisation apart from the inside out of spite, tried to kill Morrison and failed so he became an edgelord instead.

not really?
he gets the interaction entirely wrong
genji isn't guilt ridden at all, it's pretty obvious that he's like "yo hanzo you can redeem yourself if you stop being an ass"
like, if i saw the teaser and then said a load of vague shit that i already knew about (aka hanzo genji interactions) i reckon i'd get at least some of it right
also he completely ignores all of the children storytelling shit that is going alongside the trailer
blizzard have shit writers, but that guy was completely off the mark on a lot of shit, and only seems right because at that point, the teaser had come out with a lot of the predictions he made (the temple, the ult, a fucking fight)
I really like the voice acting in these shorts but always hate the cornball lines they give them.
Unlike the other shorts, I think the writing in this one was on point. Kind of a classic story but they didn't fuck it up with any weird gimmick.

Fair point, though I am not really arguing the accuracy of the vid I am more of talking about if you break down the trailer it's far too formulaic and while visual stunning it is a lazy plot. Blizzards plots to me are unoriginal to the point it feels like deja vu.
plot aside the individual lines the characters speak are all fucking atrocious
Blizzards character lines are usually full of cheesy cliche's and one liners
They have some of the best artists in the industry but jesus christ you think they could hire some decent people to write these lines.

oh yeah, blizzard really struggles to do anything original

To be fair though, they're in the business of making games, not writing groundbreaking stories.

It does go deeper.
The man who would later be known as Reaper was originally known as Gabriel Reyes. He was born in Los Angeles. Prior to the Omnic Crisis, he joined the United States military, where he achieved a senior officer position. He achieved veteran status, and was highly respected. At some point he met John Morrison, a fellow soldier, and the two became friends. Subsequently, in the midst of the Omnic Crisis, they joined Overwatch together—a small, elite taskforce created by the United Nations to deal with the omnic threat. Reyes was given leadership of the group.
Overwatch succeeded in defeating the omnics. Morrison, who had played a key role in shaping the group, was given the position of strike commander, acting as the first, official commanding officer of Overwatch. Reyes was passed over in the process, which created a rift between the two men.
At some point, Reyes was part of Overwatch's Blackwatch unit.
As time went on, the tension between Reyes and Morrison worsened. Overwatch met its end through a combination of accusations that tainted the organization's reputation, and Reyes himself. Officially, Reyes and Morrison were killed in the blast that destroyed Overwatch's Swiss headquarters, an event the UN ruled as an accident. In reality, Overwatch had become split down the middle, with Reyes leading a rebellion against Morrison's leadership. As a battle was waged within the base, their fighting triggered an explosion that destroyed the facility, and apparently took Reyes and Morrison into the inferno with it. To this day, Reyes's true agenda remains unknown.
It's not exactly the best backstory, but it's wayyyyy better than no-motive edgelord.
The music in this short is incredible, props to the musicians and composers.

Well, it does seem like they are trying to do that since their putting energy into making these shorts and comics instead of sticking completely to the game.
Well, it does seem like they are trying to do that since their putting energy into making these shorts and comics instead of sticking completely to the game.
why do people always assume the cinematics are being done by core gameplay devs instead of coding the game
this is a whole different division of blizzard dedicated to making shiny animations, and seems likely it's where their entire marketeting budget has been dumped
Well, it does seem like they are trying to do that since their putting energy into making these shorts and comics instead of sticking completely to the game.
do you honestly think that artists and coders are the same people
