Google's notoriously generous at developer events, tossing out free devices like candy on Halloween, but here at the Game Developer Conference in San Francisco it's letting them flow like wine. Each attendee at Google's Web Developer Day yesterday got a free Cr-48 laptop, and today the company dished out even greater prizes -- either a free Motorola Xoom tablet or a Nexus S smartphone to every soul listening to some exceedingly well-attended technical sessions on Android. That's certainly one way to attract game developers to your platform.

That's nice of you google, but I wished I had one.
:saddowns:
Damn, better become a game developer.
How do you pronounce Xoom?
xis-oom ?
pronounced like: Zooooom
If you want it to be cool, put an X in the name.
dear google give me a cr48 and a xoom please,
I pronounce it ksoom.
Goddamn, that thing looks pretty.
Not entirely a bad idea. Like the article says, it attracts them to the platform which means big money for google.
Google should make they're own game development team. Like hire some of the best talent in the industry that's wasted on asshole companies like Activision, and put them into the Google Games team and make some awesome games.

Thats my major :smug:
If I should buy a tablet, I'd get a Xoom. I've heard they're really good, but also quite expensive.
Wrong thread.
Instant Awesome, just add X. :v:
You'd still pronounce it Zoom.
I wish I still lived in California, I would have loved to attend GDC at all (even before this google gifting stuff) but I don't have the money to do any travelling. :saddowns:

Murxat
Oh damn it works.
MisterX?
OH DAMN
Xoom got a good review from Engadget. If Motorola and Google can channel loads of support into improving it, certainly a worthy competitor to the iPad. Everyone wins with competition.
Didn't Nintendo do this with the DS? Or was it just the developer kit? Anyway, damn nice gift, if mr. google reads this: I'll sign up for one!
Guys guys guys, live stream from Nintendo's conference!

as someone who lives there, it is a lot harder to get in then you think

X before a vowel makes a Z silly willy (usually).
as someone who lives there, it is a lot harder to get in then you think
As general public or as a Game Developer who shows up for the Conference? :v:

General public, tickets can get up to over a thousand dollars. Its actually much better to get in as an associate running one of the booths for the game developers.
My art professor is at the conference right now, lucky bastard.
