For personal reasons, I'm never going to indulge in any kind of drug, but I really don't care what other people do with their lives, I've just been curious as to what it is like, in detail, when you are some form of intoxicated.
Like, what do you see, hear, smell? How does it differ from being in a sober state? Etc.
Vivid detail would be appreciated. I just find it interesting that so many people have fun with it, I understand why though.
Personally, I've only gotten high off of weed, nothing else. But I'm sure you've heard plenty of stories about weed.

Not really actually. The most I've heard is from my co-workers, saying things like "Duuuude I was sooooo high last night you should chill with us sometime". Not very descriptive.
The only way I can describe marijuana's high is like being in a state of perpetual wonder. You feel as if you are seeing/experiencing most things for the first time [increased aesthetic appreciation], feel deep and emotional messages in music, and as if everything that is happening is "perfect" (For example, have someone put on your favorite song while blown, it just matches the situation perfectly!)
My boyfriend was on his back rubbing a computer keyboard for 20 minutes listening to Tool (his favorite band) the second time I got him baked. He would 'play' it along to the music and repeatedly exclaim how trippy the keys felt.
We stared at a visualizer for an entire album (Dark Side of the Moon) and felt nothing but amazement at something we had seen and heard many times before.

So it's like an extreme awareness to some extent?
So it's like an extreme awareness to some extent?
Not exactly.
A better description would be that it is extreme undirected focus. Rather than dismissing things you recognize, you study and interpret them.

That kind of makes a lot of sense, at least the way you explained it.
She forget to mention that food is amazing while baked.
A person's experiences when they're high, tripping, or what have you, vary enormously. Not only do the experiences vary from drug to drug, but they vary from person to person. They depend on what drug is in their system, the dosage of said drug, their mental state, whether they'd eaten prior to taking the drug, and a plethora of other variables. In short, no one experience is the same when it comes to using drugs.
I've used a fairly wide array of drugs myself, mostly psychedelics, but to describe everything I've felt on them in comparison to being sober would involve writing a book. (Which, I've already begun, to some extent. If you wanted detail, you asked for it.)
For me, being high on weed produces a very sedative state - not to the extent that sleep would be inevitable, but moreso an overall calm, peaceful feeling. The physical body takes on a feeling known as the "body high," a feeling that radiates from your body through your limbs that I can only describe as being heavy, but not uncomfortable. The senses of taste and smell become more profound as well, hence the enjoyability that stoners garner from eating large quantities of food (If you neglect to eat before getting high, a very strong urge to eat develops, referred to as "the munchies.") With a high enough dose of THC, perspective changes slightly - I've found myself noticing patterns on the ground as I walk through a field, for example. Walking along the foliage whilst staring at the ground, I feel like a giant crushing tiny trees beneath my feet. The appearance of objects takes on a strange, rosy tinge. Closing your eyes reveals very minor closed-eye visuals, reminiscent of a very faint, gentle, yet noticeable music visualizer in your mind.
I'll discuss psychedelics and entactogens (like ecstasy) tomorrow, I'm too tired to continue
My first high was last Saturday so I can remember it in detail, but I'm not sure it's the high everyone's been talking about. All my joints felt like they were floating, the first thing I noticed was that my knees were bending around in circles very smoothly. The way I laughed was completely different than the way I laugh normally. My head seemed to be floating on water. My friend told me the type we were hitting (which was through a bowl) was supposed to make us relaxed and I was so extremely relaxed. When we sat down on this huge log in the woods I put my head in my hands and that's when I think the head high really hit me. It was like a surge of massaging energy flowing from my neck to the top of my head like a wave flowing over a beach. From then on I can't really remember anything except walking out of there to get in my car to drive back to his place. Driving felt extremely smooth and I did a great job for my first time I guess but it was really easy. The neighborhood kids were there and we played basket ball with them. I think my friend's high had worn off but I was still acting goofy. They must have thought I was weird as shit though. I was laughing at random shit and not making any goals. My teammate must have hated me. I got bored of that and tried to ride a longboard down this huge hill next to where we were playing. I got pretty far until the board started to shake violently back and forth and I fell off going maybe 50 kilometers an hour. It was the most amazing fall I have ever done. The person riding a rip-stick behind me said I did a barrel roll in the air which I don't remember, but I remember landing on my hands and feet completely stable and spinning on them with one of my shoes being thrown off. I was thinking the whole time that my hand was going to be torn the fuck up but it was completely fine with a little bit of pinkish red. Two cars were there when I had fallen. the first just drove past while another full of douchefags yelled at me "don't bust your ass!" I didn't even look at them because I was walking like a badass completely unharmed. And that's the end of my story of the first time I got high last Saturday. I really want to do it again to see if what I experienced isn't its full potential.
One thing I almost forgot was that my vision seemed to be a lot more focused on exactly what I was looking at.

He. He's gay.
On another note though, that's kind of a reason why I'm turned off from paraphernalia. Yes, it does give you euphoria and makes things awesome (from what people have told me), but it's temporary. I don't know, like I said I don't see it as wrong, it's just something that's really unappealing to me.
I'm enjoying the insight though, interesting stuff.

I fucking love tool.
Also, is it just kind of stoner edict to offer a hit to everyone around? Almost every time I'm around people smoking pot they offer me a hit, even when they know I don't do it.
My bad, sorry FreakyMe.
LSD in one word is weird. However to expand it's all about your mind set and how well you can just go with the flow. It's like being a little kid again just about everything seems fun and your taste is incredibly sensitive so it's like rediscovering food (fresh fruit is my personal favourite as it's so refreshing). You can play games with your bros and feel like kings or you can bond with your closest friend just drawing pictures and listening to your favourite music (<3 you Porcupine Tree in surround sound).
LSD, it's the tits but do use it responsibly.

Your friends are bros.
We're all bros here and always offer others hits, infact some of us including myself have gotten their friends high completely off their own weed - smoking out your friends.

Isn't it common practice to make your bro's first time free?
I'm not sure, sounds about right though.
Edit:
Yeah, actually. My first few times were free.
Ketamine is alot like being wrapped in wool, everything is numb even your hearing if that makes sense.

My first times smoking were for free, between me and my mates we just take turns buying weed. So for example my mate is skint, I'll buy some weed next time he's buys it.
One of the things I love about the fact that I get high as hell is that I truly can't explain how I feel. I can explain it up to a certain point. But other then that, it's up to you to find out what your feeling will be like.
I'm pretty sure that OP's curiosity is a hint that he would like to 'indulge' in said substances. Directly stating his intention to never take drugs is an even stronger indicator of this.

Most likely, people usually don't want to believe they are curious to try it. But we might be wrong, some people are just happy hearing what it's like.
Personally I feel that the feeling of drugs is just too indescribable to explain sufficiently. No explanation will ever be just to the experience. Especially psychedelics..
Personally I feel that the feeling of drugs is just too indescribable to explain sufficiently. No explanation will ever be just to the experience. Especially psychedelics..
Exactly this.
There is really no way of describing the feeling of existing outside of the realm of normal human consciousness, outside of time and space, almost. How can one explain the significance of connecting with the Mind at Large?
[editline]6th April 2011[/editline]
Though FreakyMe's explanation of being high is very accurate and well-articulated.
Also, is it just kind of stoner edict to offer a hit to everyone around? Almost every time I'm around people smoking pot they offer me a hit, even when they know I don't do it.
Stoned people like to see other people stoned.
Yeah other stoned people are a lot easier to be around when stoned.
Psychedelics are amazing. I did acid with a friend a couple weeks ago and a few guys in the DD tinychat gave us a steady supply of "trippy" videos and they were so enchanting. My friend and I would just watch video after video and talk about where we "felt" it in our bodies. Being on drugs feels like all your preconceptions are gone and you're conscious of the profundity and utter strangeness of everything we take for granted.
Also this is a little harder to explain but whenever I've taken mushrooms it gives me a feeling of control over my life - I become aware of the extent that my actions influence the future, and I'm not just floating and trying to survive. It's really empowering and I usually feel great and act great for a long time afterwards.
Prediction:
OP is curious about high. Never say never...
OP will try at least weed in their lifetime, hence completing the quest and stopping wondering "How is it like to be high".
Also OP, things cannot be described, you can say happy, weird, trippy, but only the one who speaks will know how it actually feels.
everyone should try marijuana and psychedelics at least once in their life.
