Hey all, it's been ages since I've visited the forums, but the need has arisen for some collective discussion on an issue that is preventing me from being the person I want to be.
I want to start by saying I do have a job. A career at that. I'm a licensed cosmetologist and work as a hairstylist during the day. I make enough to pay my bills and support myself, but JUST enough. When I was young teen I was on these forums daily, doing creative stuff like modeling guns for Counter-Strike, designing websites, creating elaborate artwork in Photoshop, building little online communities, and just generally being a creative and motivated individual. Here I am several years later, an independent and grown adult, struggling to see a clear path to success. There was a time when I truly believed my skills alone would be enough to ensure success, but time has proven that to be inaccurate.
Basically, the time has come to rediscover that innovative passion that motivated me to explore my potential years ago, and to turn it into MONEY! And I know I'm not the only one who needs more money, so let's help each other.
Ideas so far (Eventually this section will be used to write detailed descriptions of the best submitted ideas):

Have you or a friend been able to make money from home using a specific skill, essentially getting paid just to do what you do best?
Do you know of ways to turn a hobby into income?

Freelance programming is fun if you're into it. You could buy and sell bitcoins, you might need to learn more about how it works first
You could build a forge and make bottle openers, and other small objects, works pretty well for Me.

Haha, just kidding, there is no way me or anyone would ever sacrifice their integrity as a modder, right guys? Right?

It's fair to request money for something you worked hard on. Black Mesa for example, after 10 years of development I think it's only fair they get some income from their work.
i work freelance as a photographer - clubs are always on the lookout for people with strong work to cover shifts. it's not easy to get into but once you're into it, you can do alright from it
I actually probably found one of the "goldmines" that doesn't involve you advertising/taking up a trade.
I made 1.2k last month in approximately 3~ weeks of work using UHRS and Clickworker. If you guys are interested in it, I'll post up the link to the Reddit guide that explains it in full. It's basically data entry through UHRS which is Microsoft's optimization platform for the Bing engine.
Granted, the work is unsteady, some weeks you can make an easy $500, other weeks you'd barely do 100$ if that. On average, when work's available, I do about 17$~ an hour and can usually pull about $300 a week with effort.

By all means, share the guide. Data entry is definitely an awesome way to make money at home, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd be interested in learning more.
I'll add the link to the OP.

That sounds really cool as well, I love doing crafty stuff. Can you share any more details about the kind of objects you sell and how you sell them?

I'm genuinely curious how you managed to make $1.2k. When I did UHRS on days when work was actually there I barely made $12/hr.
And don't even get me started on the bullshit "judgement" system they have in place that bans you if you fail the qualification test for the work. Let me give you guys an overview of how UHRS' most popular work loads (the [mobile/web] search engine battle ones) decide whether you are even considered worthy enough to participate in its HITs.
To start you're given around 10-14 questions to answer, I can't remember the exact number. Not too bad right? You wouldn't think so, but these questions' answers are precise opinion-based answers. Choose the one it thinks is more incorrect than you do? Tough luck bud you fucked up and got about two more questions before it auto-fails you and doesn't even give you the common courtesy of ending your test to let you know you were disqualified 8 questions ago. I really wish I could find a picture of the qualifying tests that actually does it justice but this one is the closest I could find.

This is also one of the shitty ones but it's not AS bad. I actually lucked out and managed to pass the qualifying test on that one and was promptly banned during the HITs section (I'll cover that in a bit). So the way it works is it displays two images side-by-side with a query. And depending on which one shows better results, you give your opinion based on which one is better. You have "Left Much Better, Left Slightly Better, Exactly the Same, Right Slightly Better, Right Much Better." The Search Engine ones are sooooo much more bullshit than this one but I'll try to make the comparison. Now I couldn't tell you the answer to this one since I found the image on Photobucket, but I can almost guarantee that it'll be "Right Much Better." If you choose any other option EXCEPT "Right Much Better" you'll fail that question. On VERY rare circumstances I've had Mobile Search Engine Battle give me a "this is your only warning" instead of instantly failing me for that question but generally speaking they aren't that generous.
Let's assume that you are somehow the 10% that actually make it past the qualifying test (exaggerated). Now you're all excited you can finally start making money on UHRS and paying those bills all while staying home. Not so fast, there's two more catches and they both occur AFTER you jump through the three flaming rings over a pit of alligators.

This is from a long while back when I was giving UHRS a try. The main section to look at is the SPAM score section. As you can see I gave both the Mobile Search Battle sections a try. The Adult one is obviously low but the regular one not too bad right? Wrong. If your spam score drops below 0.75 you're auto-banned. The way bans work in UHRS is you can be temp-banned three times before you are perma-banned. Your spam score resets every week so once your temp ban is lifted you are free to try again. But if you get more than 25% of your questions wrong again you're done for the week again and on your last chance.
How is the spam score computed? You're given a pre-determined question similar to the qualification test questions you just finished every so often. They also don't tell you when they give it to you to prevent bots from bypassing it apparently. Not only do those test questions contain the potential to literally keep you from making ends-meet for the month, they literally DO NOT PAY YOU for any test question you answer. Oh and see that RTA section? Those are like the spam questions as well, but the only difference is you can't be banned for them. Get those ones incorrect and you don't get paid for them either.
By now you're probably wondering "well that's bullshit, but there's obviously more than just those types of HITs to do, right?" Yep, and they are equally just as bad. Take a look:
[t]http://i.imgur.com/xBCsuqe.png[/t]
Look familiar? It's the SAME EXACT SHIT. Sure, they give you examples. But the examples are so precise that they become almost indistinguishable from each other excluding "Adult" (and even then I've missed some of those and believe me you wouldn't think it'd be that difficult). And unless the query is literally random numbers and letter or an ineligible phrase in a foreign language (yes you have to familiarize yourself with popular foreign language phrases as seen below) then you are not allowed to use "Not Sure."
[t]http://i.imgur.com/9ZgkrDJ.png[/t]
Now that one wasn't too awful, it was obviously "Bad" because Lakeland isn't in Oregon so the keywords didn't match the query. But here's an example of one of the many confusing ones you will see and very well could be spam questions:
[t]http://i.imgur.com/Zcdsi3q.png[/t]
I couldn't tell you if this was a marginal, approximate, or mismatch. So you better have your fingers crossed it doesn't rip your Spam score a new one.
Now I can't be honest and say that every single one of these has been as awful as the other 95% of them, I have had success with one of them that I did reasonably well at. Unfortunately that one ran out of HITs and I never saw it again. It just goes to show the work on here can be few and far between, especially if you find yourself banned from some of the highest paying / most populated HITs on the site because someone thought your opinion was wrong. I really, really, strongly suggest you guys avoid UHRS if you are looking for a source of income outside of "oh I want to make a quick buck." Cases like Alyx who can pop off HITs are few and far between and if you don't believe me have a bunch of Reddit users who also think the qualification system is a load of dicks:

http://www.reddit.com/r/WorkOnline/comments/3b3uau/just_failed_search_engine_battle_qualification_on/
If I still haven't convinced you to stay away from UHRS then feel free to give it a try at your own leisure. Maybe you'll be one of those lucky few who are able to ace the questions with no problems, but if you are one of the majority then I really suggest you don't waste your time with UHRS.

[TL;DR]
Stay away from UHRS it's a waste of time and will auto-ban you for even the slightest mistake in its judgement system effectively destroying any potential income.
The guy above me posted pretty much exactly what UHRS is, and I'm not going to sit here and defend it. On the good days, I was capable of doing upwards of 100$ had I wanted to. On average, though, with about 4 hours of it, I was seeing 60$. There are a lot of periods when work simply isn't available.
That being said, if you're a lazy nerdy college student like I am soon to be, it pays fucking great for what little effort it requires and I'm going to go ahead and post the actual guide for it and share the link to my puush where you can see my earnings. I'll include the report in a later post if anyone is skeptical.
Side note: And this is a strech, but if the idea intrigues you, PM me for my referral link? I make 5$ if you make 10$. It's not much, I'm not banking on it, and I really don't need it if you wanna try it out before I can get back to you. I'll also go ahead and friend ya on Steam if you want some advice in getting into it.

Also want to say real quick, what he posted was the SEB (search engine battle) task and a twin in a similar category. That's one of the notoriously shite ones and I rarely see few people who can learn it and make anything from it. I made my money from other hitapps that come and go, and I found myself making as much if not more than the SEB tasks so don't be turned off by that. I suck on both of those and still manage when the right work is around.
As he said, it's a bag of fucking dicks. Also another note: If you are banned from a specific hitapp, IE the one above, there's still other work to be done on other hitapps so it's not a universal ban or anything.
Yeah I should've clarified you aren't banned from the site, just banned from that specific HIT. Unfortunately as an addendum, SEB is one of (if not the) most popular HIT app whenever it decides to pop up. Outside of that there's a couple paying good ones if you can figure out how the person who designed the HITs thinks, and I can't deny if you can find a good HIT app like the one I was making that $12/hr on then it's a pretty good source of extra money. But if not then it's pretty abysmal in terms of income unfortunately.
If anything it's worth a try like I said if you want to bang out a quick buck through some work in your spare time, but don't expect a sizable source of cash from this.

Precisely. Either you invest the time to find the "easy" hitapps worthwhile, or you become a genius with SEB. The average pay, starting out, should be somewhere around 10$ an hour with potential to go up dependent on your proficiency.
That being said, this shit, as most of what I expect to come in this thread, are not ideal sources of income. Don't get the crazy idea that you could live solely off of UHRS, but it will complement your other income source(s) or works fantastically for students/living at home/living with a partner where you're not required to work. It's just a great part-time job if you can make it work for you.
I havnt used this myself, but some colleagues of mine use it to great succes.
https://www.elance.com/
They use it for freelance Mechanical Engineering/CAD drawing jobs. But they have a lot of stuff.
For extra money "on the side", I make jewellery/accessories and sell them on my Facebook page. I've sold four pieces so far this year :v: bu hey, better than nothing!
Freelance programming. Counselling and game design counselling are the best for me. Like yesterday i did a 1 hour game design counselling session and got 50$ ( i charge 50 per hour) and today i spent 2 hours doing some code work for a client and got 80 bucks (2 hours . 40$ each hour)

I'm curious to know how you obtain your clients?
Me and my wife opened an in home bakery. Made $500 profit the first month. Not sure how everyone's baking skills around these parts, but you might be surprised to learn just how many people are willing to buy baked goods
yeah but can't they just take the blood and let me leave while they do the processing
i assume there's paperwork to be filled out
how do i go about this blood plasma option?
google "blood plasma <your city>" and look for compensation information on the local companies
it takes 90 minutes because that's how long the plasma extraction takes, and after that, they return your blood to your body

I did. I used a fake number, though. I registered as a person living in UK and used an internet sms service to verify. Everything seemed to went well.
