They've been attacked by the Romans, Persians, Ottomans, Turks, Armenians, and pretty much every other civilization in that area. Arguably, the worst of it being the ethnic cleansing by the Young Turks (and more infamously, the Armenians).

Of course it's extremely unlikely they'll get kicked out for this, unless it becomes a major election topic in just about all of the other NATO countries. There would also be diplomatic issues otherwise, but I'm actually not sure how much that would be a problem. You normally can't expect much in terms of purely morally motivated choices with real consequences from politics, unfortunately, since they often aren't in a country's [I]immediate[/I] self-interest.

I also encouraged my friend who was going to take a trip to Turkey to go elsewhere, it's just best to cut all association with that country.
