A new comic series has just hit the stands starring a female version of Spider-Man.
Spider-Girl - aka Anya Corazon - is a 16-year-old high-school student of Latino descent who lives in New York.
The makers, Marvel Comics, say she provides a positive, modern image of an empowered young woman.
Unlike most superheroes, she has no superpowers, but she is trained in martial arts and has excellent fighting skills.
Marvel hope the comic will appeal to the growing number of young female comic book readers.
"People want to read stories with characters they relate to," says Spider-Girl editor Tom Brennan. "We certainly hope that young women will pick this up and enjoy it."
Spider-Girl wears a skin-tight black outfit with a large pale blue spider emblazed across her front, and is very toned and strong.
Writer Paul Tobin told the BBC that it was important to him not to portray her in a "sexualised" way, or as a "trophy" girl.
There is "definitely space in the market for a strong well-written female character", says Martin Averre who runs four comic book shops across the UK.
"Many comics still unfortunately draw women with incredibly large breasts. If they get knocked over they fall in a different way to men," he told the BBC.
I've lost all respect for Marvel.
its better than a spiderman 4
Oh my god, why?? This is... Just... Terrible. :barf:
Hot

Hasn't there been a spider-girl for a few years now...?

Apparently not.

There has, and until now it hasn't been popular. For a reason, Marvel is just greedy and is selling all their ideas to ass hole directors with little to no talent. Thanks Marvel for ruining all our childhoods.
Maybe not a comic series, but she has existed since 98

this news article is about a comic not a movie.
Apparently not.
Previous attempts to launch a Spider-Girl character have fallen somewhat flat, with only modest sales.
But Mr Averre points out that the new revamped Spider-Girl, unlike her earlier incarnations, can interact with the other superheroes, which is "always popular with readers".
There's been Spider-Girl in a bunch of comics before this one, she used to wear a similar costume to Spider-Man but her new one is more like Spider-Man's old black suit.

jesus
Spider-Girl's first monthly series was recently canceled, don't see why we need another one.

Oh, I know that. I was just saying that over the past few years they have sold off a lot of their ideas to directors, and had a movie made. And then in the movie the hero is an egotistical twat. And now Marvel is having a comic series about a feminine version of Spiderman, god knows what will happen next... They lost all their standards.
Ouch, right in the childhood.

seems like, from reading this thread, that they're trying to give an old idea a new realistic reboot and make some quick cash

Realistic my ass, Wimmen don't fight crime, they stay in the kitchen and cook.
I know, but people are acting like this is a brand new character that's some kind of awful abomination against Spider-Man

It really isn't new, but like I said Marvel is just desperately trying to breathe life into it. It's not some new 'abomination' of Spiderman, its an old 'abomination'.

Why? It sounds alot like the newest Blue Beetle, which was fantastic.
But Marvel already had Spider-Woman? Why the hell they need another female Spider-man character?
Pretty kinky really.

Why the hell do they need a DIFFERENT Spider-Girl is the real question.
