'The character's name is Bilal Asselah and he is an Algerian Sunni Muslim and an immigrant that is physically fit and adept at the gymnastic sport parkour,' wrote Warner Todd Huston on his site Publius Forum. 'Apparently Batman couldn't find any actual Frenchman to be the 'French saviour',' wrote the rightwinger, apparently discounting the millions of French citizens of North African descent from his definition of 'actual' French. In the December issues of DC Comics Detective Comics Annual and Batman Annual, the caped crusader decides to set up Batman Incorporated and install a superhero in cities around the world to fight crime. The hero he picks in France is called Nightrunner, the alter ego of a 22-year-old from Clichy-sous-Bois, a tough Paris suburb where urban unrest sparked riots in immigrant districts across France in 2005. Bilal Asselah, a Frenchman of Algerian origin, was caught up in that unrest and at one point he and his friend got beaten up by police who mistook them for rioters. Bilal's friend reacted by later burning down a police station and ended up being killed by police. But Bilal, thanks largely to the influence of his pious Muslim mother, rejects hate and fear.
http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Lifestyle/Story/STIStory_621136.html
why are you remaking a classic superhero
this isnt a remake of batman he's batmans sidekick in france!!!!!
oh nooo diversity [editline]5th January 2011[/editline] sounds terribad
He's just spreading the Batman influence to every city in the world.
That batman looks bad ass
I don't think any iconic figures such as a super hero should believe in religion.
Immigrant Muslim Frenchman, no wonder they hate him.
Why aren't they mad about Wolverine? He's been a Buddhist for years.
Seems like a fucking awesome comic.
why are you remaking a classic superhero
they're not, he just recruits a french muslim in paris
"mixing races/ideals/cultures? despicable."
You could honestly replace "Paris 'Muslim Batman'" with just about anything and still have a topic.
why are you remaking a classic superhero
This is why:
He looks like Deadpool/Deathstroke.
This is why:
It's not remaking anything, except maybe Robin - but nobody really gives a shit about Robin anymore. Hence this guy.
It's not remaking anything, except maybe Robin - but nobody really gives a shit about Robin anymore. Hence this guy.
How do you remake robin? There's been like... 8 of them, no joke.
i bet muslim batman has hand grenades full of semtex in the form of infants
How do you remake robin? There's been like... 8 of them, no joke.
And no one can tell which one is canon and which one isn't, and which ones became who and why.
Why aren't they mad about Wolverine? He's been a Buddhist for years.
Buddhists don't appear in large percentages in western nations. It is also a religion that is so alien to the three major monotheistic religions that they don't view it as competition or a threat. Buddhism in general is a very non combative religion which means there isn't much of a history of violence between it and other factions/religions. Christianity, Judaism, and Islam all subscribe to what is effectively the same asshole entity. Each of which has their version of the old testament which demands the death of the nonbelievers. This leads to...problems as you can well imagine. Hence tension when one of those three religions crops up where another is prevalent.
right wingers need to fuck off [editline] f [/editline] He recruited a sidekick who happened to be a Muslim, who gives a fuck
This comic explains my views better than I could ever articulate:
And no one can tell which one is canon and which one isn't, and which ones became who and why.
they're all canon, there's just a time line of robins, and it depends which world batman you're talking about and what not. it's not like DC discredited their own history.
Religion never really came up in batman why do they need to start any shit at all.
