It’s all summed up fairly well by the little message shoppers get when they view the digital edition of the game on Amazon: “Currently Unavailable. We don’t know when or if this item will be available again.” Just below that, a host of negative reviews have pushed the game’s rating down to one star. It’s not a good page for EA.
Only fair IMO.
If they insist on having it always online, they should at least be better prepared for the launch.
A colossal fuck to what used to be a perfect ip
-waitithinkimwrong-
So glad I never bought another EA anything after BF3. To be fair I guess I was in the same hypeboat for Kharkand
An online game having problems on launch. As if that's anything new.
My disc version is to arrive today... I just hope that once I get to play it, it is good
Sucks to because the new Simcity is actually really good but it's being held back by all these problems EA is having. At least they're doing something about it and offering refunds.

What's sad is I bet the next iteration of The Sims is going to be always online.
On the other hand, that means I can stick with Sims 2 and Sims 3.
What's sad is I bet the next iteration of The Sims is going to be always online.
If EA decides to do that after all this shit someone should seriously fire some of them.

If they do that they may as well just remake The Sims Online.
Feel sorry for Maxis, the game is very good. But they shouldn't have got in bed with EA.

The Sims can be well integrated to the socal stuff (eg look at The Sims online) but if they do 100% online (AK always on drm) and not a part dedicated to the singleplayer, that would ruin definetly a good series, also EA decided to kill mod support to left space to the infamous "DLC", and that is a mayor part on almost all sim series.
goddamn EA ruining good stuff...
and that is a mayor part on almost all sim series.
Not sure if typo or pun. I like it, either way.

Stop blaming EA for everything that's wrong with your favorite game ffs.
EA own Maxis though.
Yes, but it when Maxis was bought by EA it was ultimately their decision as to whether to go along with it or not. Now they are paying the price.
Stop blaming EA for everything that's wrong with your favorite game ffs.
Only when they stop being the cause of the problems.

People's big and main problem with Simcity is the always online.
The always online is due to EA. Other than that, people think it's a great game.
Whether you hate EA, like EA, or just don't care either way, it doesn't change the fact that they caused this problem.
Take off your anti-anti-EA goggles and look at the facts for a moment.

Even though all the games Maxis has made have been published by EA, including all the sims titles and sim city.
Maybe, just maybe, this was a decision by the developer?

How do you know that EA was the one who decided this should be a feature from the start, and it wasn't Maxis? No speculation, I want evidence.
It's so easy to shift blame on someone else when you want to believe that someone is pure and true.

Or perhaps the power of the publisher to dictate what goes into the game. They are the ones paying Maxis.

In the perfect world where a publisher like EA doesn't tamper with the product their developer is making, sure, but not in this world.

Ugh, come the hell on, like it was Maxis. Anyone with a brain can see this.
Facepunch has got this weird thing going on where there was so much hate for EA that a faction of people have jumped up violently deflecting criticism away from them solely on the idea that there's too much blind hate for them.
Stop ignoring what's obvious so that you can be the ~alternative viewpoint~.
Anyway, sorry for the rant. Somebody get this man his evidence.
Or perhaps the power of the publisher to dictate what goes into the game. They are the ones paying Maxis.
So just because they are a publisher, you are instantly assuming this was their call? So then why does Maxis get all the positive credit and none of the negative? If Maxis is just doing what EA wants, then that means all the good games that were created by them were only made possible by EA.
My point is you guys have this double standard when it comes to EA. The game designer is always right and EA is always wrong, no matter what. Fuck, they can host a summit about LGBT people working in the industry and everyone labels it as a "publicity stunt". Give the cynical crap a rest for once, for fucks sake.

So it's just blind speculation?

Look, I don't really care about EA. They're supporting LGBT? Good on them, we need more than that.
My opinion is based on the strategies and policies that EA has been building up over the years, and they have reached a point where they feel like averting piracy via being always online is a feasible thing for them to do.
I have no attachment to Simcity or Maxis. I've never played their games. If it's Maxis' fault, then it's their fault. It's just highly unlikely.

Oh are you fucking
Ok, so I'm blindly speculating, and you're blindly defending them. According to you, neither of us has anything to back up our viewpoints. So why are you taking the high and mighty standpoint?

Why is it unlikely though? That's what I want to know. Why is EA the bad guy and not Maxis? All I've heard is conspiracy level bullshit about how EA is big and controls everyone who works for them to the point where they just do what they want.
News flash: Game devs can have these ideas too. They can also ruin your favorite game just because they want to reach a wider audience: http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/09/07/will-wright-reacts-to-crtical-spore-reviews/
I'm not sure how many more times I need to post that to get my point across: EA isn't what makes games bad, it can be just as much the developers fault too.

No, no, I get your point. I'm not disputing that. If it's the developer's fault, then it's their fault.
I'm saying that in this instance, over specifically the always-online requirement, it's much more likely that it's EA's fault.
[editline]8th March 2013[/editline]
I'm not trying to go EA SUCKS THEY'RE EVIL AND RUINS MAH VIDYA GAMES, I'm just going by what EA is and what they do.

And what I'm saying is that your bias towards EA is unwarranted because it's all based off of speculation. If you have some sort of proof, then maybe I will see your point, but right now it just sounds like "I don't like EA because they are mean, but I have nothing to back that up". Is that really how you base your opinions?

Well, no matter how you twist it or turn it, EA is still doing absolutely horrid damage control in refusing people the refunds they've been promised. When The War Z had an arguably equally shitty launch, it was both pulled and refunded to all who asked for it, within the fuckin' hour of release.
And EA wasn't a shitty company at that point by any measure.
Hindsight is great isn't it!
Actually, when did EA turn to shit? It was certainly still great in 2005, and shit in 2008. Where was the turning point?
