Thunderbolt 1000T on Anderson (Wilson) school ground in Wichita KS - horn rotation set at 2 RPM. Originally intended to signal "the end of the world as we know it" from a Soviet nuclear missile launch during the cold war era, its mission now is to warn of a tornado in the area. Although the siren is Civil Defense yellow, I decided to tweak the video a bit by aging and going grayscale to give it a more ominous atomic age film look.
In elementary school when we would have an air raid drill, all the students would go to the school hallways and the teachers instructed us how to sit against the wall, bend over and put our heads between our legs with our hands on our heads. What they didn't tell us was that if this had been an actual attack, this served the purpose of kissing our butts goodbye.
The T-bolt in attack mode sounds eerie and considering it's original purpose it's fitting. Those too young to remember or didn't learn about it in school should Google "Cuban missile crisis" and see that those cold war years were some scary times indeed.
Scary.

Sirens scare me because of Silent Hill :frown:
You have 22 minutes to pray and do something before a Soviet Missle flies over the US Coasts.
These sirens are very ominous, and also remind me of silent hill like 8bitlord said. Very cool, I would love to have a small hand-crank model for no real reason.
Holy fuck Silent Hill, I think every gamer will be creeped out :v:
Fuck I'm buying a siren how much are they.
I expected some fighter jet displaying its firepower, Oh well this is also....creepy

I love how the sound gets louder as it turns towards the camera.
Just the noise of those things is enough to scare most people.
Its so damn creepy!
I own something like that is powered by a hand crank
This actually sent shivers down my spine. Sirens are creepy as fuck.

Brilliant idea!!! Really someone do this!!!
I actually bought a car horn that works, (and partly sounds) like one of these.
Not nearly as loud, but my goal is eventually buy one of these and scare the shit out of people, no matter how illegal it is.

No, fuck that, you need a fog horn. A#2 is a pretty good note, from what I hear.

Fuck, looks like for real sirens you need a license and they cost like $600. I'll take a gander at fog horns.
We have these in my town in a couple of places, they set them off once a year, randomly it seems. Im geussing just to test them, since we dont have to do anything in particular when they go off.
Edit:
We have these to be exact:

We have tornado sirens here. I had never experienced them when I first moved.
I was promptly woken by one on the first Saturday here at noon. I nearly shat my pants.

Add a nuke out there.

I hate sirens, they usually mean shit's about to go down.
Sounds like an air raid siren.
Because it is. The emergency warble is now used to signal things other than nuclear attacks or air raids (Like imminent natural disasters). Previously it would only be heard if a nuke was actually confirmed to be incoming.
