Something going on in my town, thought I'd share. Source: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/windsor/dwarf-toss-at-leopard-s-lounge-met-with-online-outrage-petition-1.3425348
A strip club owner in Windsor, Ont., is defending his decision to go ahead with a controversial dwarf tossing event.A dwarf is scheduled to don headgear and a harness and have customers pay to throw him onto a rubber mat Friday and Saturday night at two strip clubs owned by Rob Katzman. Nearly 4,000 people have signed a petition to put a stop to the events at the Toy Chest in Detroit, Mich., and Leopard's Lounge and Broil in Windsor, Ont. "Dwarf tossing is a disgusting spectacle that subjects people with dwarfism to ridicule and physical harm," says the petition started by the Little People of Canada, Little People of Ontario and Little People of America on change.org.

"I thought we'd kind of grown out of this, but here we go, so we have to go back at it and fight to remove the objectification of little people," Redford said.Leopard's first held a dwarf toss in 2012 and that was met with a similar backlash.
Personally I don't see an issue. The guy volunteers for it and gets paid really well.
If the dude willingly signed on to do it, why are people getting offended for him?
I see no problems with dwarf tossing either. If the guy agrees to get thrown, the environment is safe, and he gets paid then what's the problem?
If that's what the guy wants to do who the fuck is anyone to get in his way?
But, guys, it's the current year ! :vs:
People sure do love getting offended and pissed for someone else they dont even know and will never meet
Good rule of thumb: if everyone involved was in a consensual agreement and nobody got hurt, why does it matter?

If that's what the guy wants to do who the fuck is anyone to get in his way?

If the dude willingly signed on to do it, why are people getting offended for him?
This is just an extension of this stuff
God damn people getting offended for other people. What sparked this shit? Why is it a thing? If no one bitches then it's not a problem.
Good rule of thumb: if everyone involved was in a consensual agreement and nobody got hurt, why does it matter?
It reinforces stereotypes of and discrimination against a particular demographic, and affects the majority perception of said demographic negatively.
It reinforces stereotypes of and discrimination against a particular demographic, and affects the majority perception of said demographic negatively.
If someone's going to judge someone for having dwarfism, I really doubt this one event is going to change anything.
God damn people getting offended for other people. What sparked this shit? Why is it a thing? If no one bitches then it's not a problem.
Their protests would get the dwarf fired. Messed up.
It reinforces stereotypes of and discrimination against a particular demographic, and affects the majority perception of said demographic negatively.
well it's just good we have people telling other people what those people of minority can and can't do
There's a bar here that does midget wrestling and then this thing they call bowling where you push midgets on a skateboard that can't turn headfirst into bowling pins. They love starting fights with people that try to call them little people and said offenders have occasionally been thrown into the ring.
It reinforces stereotypes of and discrimination against a particular demographic, and affects the majority perception of said demographic negatively.
maybe if youre a fucking idiot and can't tell the difference between consensual fun and hurtful ridicule
Enjoying such activities involves having fun at the dwarf's expense, whether you acknowledge it or not. The act inherently uses the fact that the dwarf is smaller than others and can be tossed around like a toy: it reduces an entire demographic to a circus act.
well it's just good we have people telling other people what those people of minority can and can't do
If you read the article, you'd have known that the petition was started by the groups Little People of Canada, Little People of Ontario and Little People of America.

Like just because it's little people advocating this doesn't make it okay to demean a person by saying "Nah we know what's best for you". It doesn't make it any less patronizing or grand standing just because of their stature.

Is the dwarf doing it because he wants to or doing it because financially, he doesn't have a lot of other options?
Is the dwarf doing it because he wants to or doing it because financially, he doesn't have a lot of other options?
Seems to be both, according to their description of him walking out all happy and with his pants full of bills.

I don't see the harm in it if the person in question wants to do it.
It is demeaning to them as a whole, and he's compromising public perception of them as a demographic by doing this.
I like to call this the grow up principle, simply let the guy do what he enjoys to do. Accept everyone one for how they are. Then it doesn't matter what they are doing or whatever they look like because at the end of the day their humans. Not little people, not blacks, not this that or the other, just humans.
It is demeaning to them as a whole, and he's compromising public perception of them as a demographic by doing this.
So fuck this guy cause reasons basically Fuck his choices or rights to decide for himself, he HAS to live by rules that are entirely arbitrary? You can't say you respect their choices when you factually don't because of things like this
It is demeaning to them as a whole, and he's compromising public perception of them as a demographic by doing this.
you can't do the thing because it demeans your people trust me I know a people

You can't say you respect their choices when you factually don't because of things like this
If you read through my posts carefully, I neither advocated for or against banning dwarf tossing. I was presenting an alternative viewpoint to explain why dwarf tossing could be a hurtful activity, even if the little person involved was fine with it.

They should learn how to respect that and fuck off.
It is demeaning to them as a whole, and he's compromising public perception of them as a demographic by doing this.
If I wanted to I could go out in public wearing nothing but overalls and a straw hat, slam my stupid talentless fingers against a banjo, and do a dance-seizure while screaming "yeehaw!" At the most, someone may tell me to shut up and stop disturbing the peace. Why am I given more freedom than this minority by the groups who think that they are acting for the betterment of minorities?
If you read through my posts carefully, I neither advocated for or against banning dwarf tossing. I was presenting an alternative viewpoint to explain why dwarf tossing could be a hurtful activity, even if the little person involved was fine with it.
No you gave a reason that you stated as fact, not a view point or a perception, you stated something as if it were matter of fact. I don't know if it is or not, regardless of whether or not it is, I think it's best to let people make their own decisions.
Well he is not them and as an adult he can do what he wants. They should learn how to respect that and fuck off.
You're not getting my point are you? Dwarf tossing as an activity hurts them as a group, even if that one guy might be fine with it. Of course they're going to be against it.
No you gave a reason that you stated as fact, not a view point or a perception, you stated something as if it were matter of fact. I don't know if it is or not, regardless of whether or not it is, I think it's best to let people make their own decisions.
So you think that dwarf tossing does not hurt little people as a group?
It is demeaning to them as a whole, and he's compromising public perception of them as a demographic by doing this.
the solution to this is to stop encouraging people to group others by their physical characteristics. the only thing that dwarves have in common with eachother is dwarfism, beyond that they are all individuals who are fully capable of making their own decisions. if someone sees dwarftossing and it affects their perception of all dwarves that's their fault, not the guy getting tossed, so why punish the guy doing what he wants (and getting paid for it). it makes no sense to me to take away their freedom of choice because some idiots are being idiots, that just seems backwards to me
So you think that dwarf tossing does not hurt little people as a group?
Not living up to Tolkien stereotypes hurts them as a group more than this lmao That is to say "no, not at all."
