• Engine RPMs Raise for Brief Moment when Upshifting

Hey, I have an '06 Volkswagen Passat and lately I've been having some weird things going on with the transmission. Namely whenever the automatic transmission upshifts under acceleration (usually from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to 4th.) the engine RPMs jump about 1000 RPM just for a brief moment before dropping back down again. I've been thinking it's time to replace the transmission fluid, but what is AA's opinion?
Also, tires. What all-season tires do you guys recommend for my size? I have 235/45 R17 97H on there right now, and they're pretty bald. Right now I'm looking between Michelin Primacy MXM4's and Yokohama AVID Ascend's.
Yeah, try changing the tranny oil. It can do weird things sometimes, whenever I was in idle my car would be at 2000-2500 rpms, and after changing the tranny oil it went down to about 1000 rpms
could be either worn stators (2006 is pretty recent though) or one of the clutches are too worn (also really unlikely unless the thing has like 100k+ miles) like they said, change the fluid. you can also dump in some anti-slip goop that helps with this.
Alright, thanks for the help.
I would not worry about it. My Audi when shifting is really weird. If your like freaking out over it. Drop the tranny pan and change the filter + fluid. Remember the tranny has to be at the optimal tempature to check the fluid. :science: WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT. Re reading the OP. The RPM's Jump 1000rpm + RPM's of the prev gear? Record what its doing......
It's more like 300-600 RPM, but yeah you got it.
Before changing the fluid, check the consistency. If it's gritty, you shouldn't change it
residual boost
I would just change the fluid for the grins. I don't know if it's like mine but I have to drop the pan to change the filter and to fully drain it.
AFAIK, you have to drop the pan on all autos to drain the fluid and change the filter.
AFAIK, you have to drop the pan on all autos to drain the fluid and change the filter.
wait, auto trans have filters? I never knew that.
Yep, even dem 700r4's
Changing tran fluid is p much just like changing oil, only difference is what your unbolting
yeah instead of one bolt, it's like 10+ and a gasket. :v:
yeah instead of one bolt, it's like 10+ and a gasket. :v:
air tools turn 10 bolts into 10 seconds
and strip 6 of them in 5 sec
