A SOCIAL media trend #WomenAgainstFeminism is creating controversy overseas, going viral in the US and re-opening debate on how far women have really come.
The movement originated from a Tumblr post in which photos have been posted of women holding up signs explaining why they don’t need feminism.
The explanations vary from “I do like being feminine”, “catcalling isn’t rape”, “cooking for my husband is not oppression”, “I love to be sexy for my man”, to “I don’t need something that tells me the actions of a slut are okay”
Here’s a few posts we found on Twitter:

Dangit
*radical overzealous "feminism"
Women are still getting underpaid and shit, but the issue is the extremist freaks proclaiming that all men are pigs etc.
We need feminism, we just need to ditch the vocal minority.
Are you guys that ignorant on the fact that they're directing "feminism" as hate speech? It's not hard to grasp that feminism is a good thing when breaching equality but that's not what they're fighting against. They're saying they live in a normal, first world country, that they can accomplish just as much, but still fight for equality on both sides, not just females.

How about we form some kind of "gender equality movement" or something. You know. Instead of having this MRA v Feminism thing.

Because 99.999% of MRA beliefs and points of discussion are ridiculous

It's always the vocal minority that gets heard the most, though, because they're always the ones making the louder noises.
Are these the type of people who believe that tumblr feminists represent the entire feminist movement? They're not out to oppress men and make sure no women ever takes a feminine role, they just want equality for both genders, and women still get the shit end of the stick often.
This hashtag campaign seems mis-informed and not needed at all.

You can call it whatever you want but if it sounds pleasant and it's on the internet it won't stay the way you want it to be forever.
Seems like a reaction to the extremists in the feminist movement, who are certainly giving it a bad name recently. But we are still a fair ways from total equality between men and women, so to say women don't need feminism is naive and/or an exaggeration.
Damn shame, it's like they've been suckered in by the cliques of guys who already think this, who don't understand that while women may not be directly oppressed so much anymore, there's still a lot of internalised sexism and the like left

Looks like quite a decent amount of these people are MRAs, saw some people from A voice for Men on there (one of them even had a picture showing off his neckbeard), so yeah they are that delusional.

The point is not about that. It's about how the Feminism being shown these days are tumblr like "trigger warning victum complez" types.
It's always the vocal minority that gets heard the most, though, because they're always the ones making the louder noises.
The empty vessel makes the loudest sound.
people on the internet being dumb reacting to other people on the internet being dumb
nothing to see here folks, move along
In fact, I think this should be clear.
They are not slandering the Feminism that fights for the ability of Women to be able to Abort a fetus, or the pay gap.
They're slandering the "tumblr modern feminism" of playing the victim for views, and trigger warnings, and everything is apparently rape, and that men are always evil.
Poor wording? I agree that tumblr-brand feminism needs to be gone, but the feminism that many women have been carrying out since ??? to this damn day should stay.
A victim complex and a hugbox don't mix together very well.

The point of trigger warnings is so that people browsing Tumblr can avoid seeing things that could bring back traumatic memories; most often memories of abuse and rape. I think it should be trivialised and put down to having a victim complex.
I mean I get it; some people ask for trigger warnings for things that you feel aren't traumatic or worth avoiding, and when things like that pop up it's easy to use ignorance as an excuse for devaluing it and throwing a blanket of 'you're just looking for attention' over the whole movement. But if it helps some people properly avoid being reminded of awful things that have happened to them then why make a fuss.

that's like being against radical muslims and making a hashtag called "people against muslims"

While those kinds of idiots are the "face" of feminism for many people, the best thing we can probably do is just try to ignore them
that's like being against radical muslims and making a hashtag called "people against muslims"
No.
It's not like that at all.
Why would you even think that? We're talking about an ideology here, not race.

Based on their wording, I sincerely doubt they understand the difference.

Feminism by its name implies a focus on one gender, which many women have internalized making it a womens interest movement.
With the sheer size of the movement and the vastly different beliefs somebody who identifies as a feminist could hold it makes sense for there to be a new term. I really don't see why there is so much hostility to being more inclusive.

Islam is a religion, not a race. It's a set of ideas, some of which get taken too far, how is feminism any different in that regard?
