Looks pretty great to me, and very Mirror's Edge.
They didn't screw up the free running.
Hype.
Why'd that car at 3:42 stop for nothing, my immersion is broken
That combat system looks pretty clunky. It's kinda ridiculous to see the guy attack a soldier, run up a wall a couple of times, and then attack another guy.
On another note, open world really is the way to go with this.
What's with the melee system? She runs up, punches the air 3 times and then suddenly the game takes the wheel, teleports her to their face and she does a scripted attack that will always connect.
I mean it's not horrible but when people play like that it just looks weird.
I have a problem with the level design, it's too clean and flat which makes it look unpolished
I hope the level design will end up less "game-y" and look more like a city in the final build. Most areas shown in the video looks like New Super Mario levels.
Looks awesome, my only gripe is that they removed being able to use any guns, maybe its just me but it doesn't make any sense..

I'd rather that than the opposite to be honest. I was scared that they would just make this game battlefield with freerunning. Anyway the correct way to play the first ME meant not picking up guns anyway.

Aw hell no, them removing guns entirely was 100% the right call.
Locking maneuvers behind XP and having combat so prominent is gonna be an issue.
Is it worth checking out the original game on Steam?
I really dislike the combat and the HUD, but free running still looks ace.
The HUD (or lack thereof) in the first game was perfect. I understand that they need the minimap because it's an open world game but the health/stamina bar and the enemy lifebars are just so out of place.

Definitely, it's a cult classic for a reason
I never got how people could stand freerunning with the red markers turned on.
It's like if Grimrock had arrows and tips scrawled on the walls telling you how to win.
I can't be the only one not a fan of the first one. I spent $5 on it and feel ripped off.
This is the most over-rated "under-rated" games that comes to my mind. How people think it's one of the best games of last-generation is beyond me.
Game looks siiick!, movement looks REALLY nice and the graphical and sound aspects have really been tweaked
The only thing i still dislike is the fact that even for small'distance jumps you need to perform a roll, it wasnt THAT punishing on the first one and the fact that combat is pretty clunky
i wouldn't mind the combat so much if the enemies weren't so hit spongy
i feel like it would be best if they went down in a hit or two so that combat would only be a nice break from the actual gameplay instead of jumping around in a small cubic area like a monkey and pawing at their faces for 3 minutes
it would be fine if you could knock them over and keep running but the "eliminate the enemies" prompt on the screen was pretty off-putting
I mean, judging from what I saw of the opening parts of the game, when you enter a fight it's pretty much a first-person beat-em-up with freerunning still being an option. To the point that there's a quick circle strafe maneuver to zoom around an enemy in an attempt to dodge or back attack. It seems a lot of missions also really want you to beat the crap out of enemies, compared to the first game where besides a few mandatory situations, you were encouraged to bypass or avoid them if possible. Here, one early mission has you collecting chips from various spots, but the game literally just plants enemies right infront of the chips and tells you to defeat them before you're allowed to collect.
I also don't know what to think on the changed health system and the Focus Shield. On principle you still regen health, but now this means guns are extensively lethal and melee combat just got a whole lot harder if you're reckless and let yourself get hit a little too much. The Focus Shield is obviously their way of dealing with the lethal guns problem, but while it's better than the first game where you're constantly getting shot in the back while running and Faith just.. shrugs it off, it's incredibly game-y to just run and build up meter specifically for defending yourself from ranged damage.
Running looks great but that combat looked incredibly tedious and boring.

Also, this. I get that they need a progression loop to keep people interested in the open world aspect but it seems like a lot of good shit is locked behind hours of gameplay. I wonder if there is some special combat technique that makes it quicker that won't be unlockable until you are almost done with the game :v:
Yeah the combat looks extremely bad. Like how could they think that looks good.

I'd like to think all guns having user recognition or something which prevents faith from using them.
The only other alternative is faith don't want to kill anyone ... but when the trailer shows her kicking some random guy out of a skycraper window that argument hardly holds up.
So far it looks like it's going to suffer from the same problem as the first one - obnoxious sidetracking with unwanted features.
it doesn't look trash at least.
I'm going to count the game based on main-story content.

besides that shit with finding bags, i thought the original mirrors edge was really minimal in terms of gameplay features.
The running seems like a slow jog, I feel like I walk around as fast as her in-game run. Maybe it's because she's a (small) Asian?

When you're lower to the ground it looks like you're moving faster?

It's due to the FOV most likely.
When I saw the open world stuff with all the side things to do I got this bad feeling of Ubisoft and what Assassins Creed turned into. Adding the exp system you get close to what the latest AC is.
I'm also really skeptical about that combat. I kinda liked the guns with their limited use.
Open world is nice but it always brings the danger of making everything look generic. Here another meaningless side quest, there another randomly generated prisoner escort etc. Having a semi-linear level design had its benefits.
I will keep my eye on it.
