I weigh 85 kg at 6'. I just want to tone up for a few months for summer. I know some of you will think I need to put on more weight before even thinking about toning up, but I'm not someone who's goal is to get massive, just have a good body, ya know. I don't really have the time nor want to hit the gym more than 3 times a week and can't be bothered counting calories or any of that because I'm still young at 18 and always have been naturally skinny. I know how to eat over maintenance and how to eat under. I'm very casual about all of that.
How should my weight training be during this period though? I've heard from some places that I should lower weights and increase reps and other places that I should stick to my current weights and not change my routine at all, but I always thought that would mean I would lose muscle mass from being under maintenance. Heck I've got no idea.
So lets say I currently bench 4 sets of 8 reps of 60 kg. Should I just maintain that during this period? What is the correct way to go regarding sets, reps and weight?
Low volume, high intensity. Occasionally high volume to deplete storages completey and enchance fatloss.
What do you mean by volume?
Number of total sets per workout
Ah right. In that case I'm thinking I'll halve my sets for each muscle group, drop the weight a bit (not much), and just smash these out and then focus on more abs/core and cardio after the lifting.
If this sounds bad please let me know. I guess I have some experimenting to do.
Youd want to keep intensity as high as possible. I.e weight on the bar.
Also focusing on your core is useless when you are cutting......
Cheers I'll give it a shot.

Just going back to my example though, would low volume - high intensity just be dropping my 4 sets to 2, 8 reps to about 4-5 and keeping the weight the same at 60 kg?
Yes.
