A man has demanded compensation from Google after his mountain bike was stolen from his garage in Bradford, UK. His house is shown on Google StreetView, with the garage door open, showing his freezer, washing machine, and mountain bike. Mr Rayner claims that Google have intruded his privacy, human rights, and the right to live in peace and quiet. "It's alright they can blur things out" he says, "but they should have asked me personally if they could photograph my house" "I chose to live in this area because it's nice and quiet ... this is making everyone aware of where you live leaving us all open targets". Meh, I have nothing against Google StreetView. It's awesome if you're going somewhere if you've never been there before.
Asked him personally? Google doesn't go knocking on every fucking building on the planet and ask if their car may drive past it.
Cry me a fucking river.
A thief who uses google streetview to steal stuff is an idiot
Interesting... I actually wonder how this will turn out, since it is a technical breach of privacy if the photo shows inside the house... though it's his fault for leaving the garage open all day to the point that the street-view truck caught it. He probably left it open when the bike was stolen, too. If I were out to steal a bike... I wouldn't putz in circles around street-view to find someone who had their garage open several months ago as a van full of cameras strolled by, I'd go down a street myself and find a target ripe for the picking at the moment. ...not that I'd do that. :ninja:
I guess you could say the thief was searching for a new bike.
If he didn't want anyone to see it then all he has to do is request that Google takes his house off StreetView. Job done.
guys my front door got stolen because it was on streetview
A thief who uses google streetview to steal stuff is an idiot
An Idiot with a new bike.
I guess you could say the thief was searching for a new bike.
No.. Just no.
No.. Just no.
Should I highlight the word 'searching' with italics?
I steal shit for a living and I use Google Street View as my main resource. Me and other thieves like me have found Google Street View to be a valuable resource. I spend days at a time roaming the streets of Google Street View looking for open garages to case out from the safety of my computer.
Oh hey guys I'll leave my garage open so that everyone in my neighborhood can see my stuff. HOLY SHIT SOMEONE TOOK MY BIKE FFFFFFFFF- IT'S OBVIOUSLY THE INTERNET'S FAULT.
Shouldn't leave his garage door open.
i like how they took a picture of him with his garage open in the background. maybe people will steal more shit :downsbravo:
It was probably a $25 bike too from Walmart or something.
It was probably a $25 bike too from Walmart or something.
We don't have walmart in the UK.
i like how they took a picture of him with his garage open in the background. maybe people will steal more shit :downsbravo:
On the news they showed the actual street view image, and they zoomed in and highlighted all of his belongings [editline]07:20PM[/editline]
We don't have walmart in the UK.
It's ASDA
of course... suing google, you might as well try suing bill gates. Sure they have the money to make a quick settlement, but they'll probably grab you by your nostrils and run you straight into the ground.
Or he could have clicked on "Report a problem" and get the photo deleted from Street View :downs:
Yeah, it's definitely Google's fault, it's not like the thief could possibly be walking past when he had his garage door open, he probably opens it every day, or maybe the thief saw him store his bike in the garage after a trip. Nah, it's definitely Google's fault.
Oh god they're stealing my street
Well actually he's not that dumb, I'm not saying it's Google's fault, but he has a point, it can help thieves (although it'll help more normal people), but it does invade privacy rights. Think about it like this, how would you feel if you saw someone standing infront of your house taking pictures of it? [editline]05:52PM[/editline] I wouldn't be surprised if he won.
A thief who uses google streetview to steal stuff is an idiot
But not in this case [editline]06:55PM[/editline] stupied yank
Google stole his bike.
Windows help thieves too. can we sue all the window manufacturers for allow them to see into our own homes? Doors allow thieves to get in. can we also sue the door manufacturers for them to get in? Someone loses something, and they look for a very simple explanation for compensation. then if they're a big enough company, sue the shit out of them because you felt like they breached your privacy for photographing the street. It's not like google went ahead, got onto his property and started to do panorama views of his house, and its interior. Way to go UK, you're starting to take some traits of the Americans. I knew you would come to your senses.
Someone make a Google Search story about it.
That guy is stupid and it would never stand up in court, at least not in america. If it was visible from the street then there's nothing he can do about it. What's the difference between google taking a picture of it and someone walking by looking at it? Should we arrest everyone who looks from the road into a garage that is left open?
trying to sue Google when they have done nothing wrong? on yer bike!!........wait
