Israeli officials told visiting USS Chief Joint of Staffs Martin Dempsey that it would give President Barack Obamano more than 12 hours notice if and when it attacks Iran, The LondonTimes reported Sunday. The Netanyahu government also will not coordinate with the United States an attack on the Islamic Republic, according to the report, the latest in a number of suposed scenarios concerning cooperation or lack of it between Jerusalem and Washington. It is left to speculation whether the rumors are based on facts or are leaked by officialsto mask the possibility of secret military coordination. The London Times said its sources explained that that Israel fears that President Obama would try to torpedo an Israel attack if more notice were given because he is concerned that Iran will respond by blocking the Strait of Hormuz, sparking a rise in the price of oil that could cripple Western economies. If the attack were to occur in the next 10 months, it would put President Obama in a tight spot on the eve of his bid for re-election.President Shimon Peres told Dempsey, "I am sure that in this fight [against Iran] we will emerge victorious. It is a fight that does not belong exclusively to the United States or Israel, but a global struggle to create a safe world for all peoples.”Dempsey, on his first official visit to Israel, was wined and dined by Defense Minister Ehud Barak and IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gants, who went so far as to arrange an IDF orchestra rendition of song made famous by Frank Sinatra, one of Dempsey’s favorite singers.Dempsey tried to play down the postponement of what was billed as the largest-ever joint military drill between the Israeli and American armies, involving thousands of U.S. Army soldiers.Published reasons for the delay have ranged from budgetary constraints, logistical problems to a signal from Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu that he distrusts President Obama’s commitment to stop Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.Dempsey maintained that the delay, which was announced by Israel, will give both countries more time to prepare and “achieve a better outcome.”The top American general left Israel on Friday, before the Sabbath began.[/release]

What If he needed another minute to decide?
Let's aid Iran when Israel does attack
Oh great.
I'm graduating in June. My grandparents will be here by then. Wish I could find a way for them to stay so that they won't have to witness America raping their home.
More muscle-flexing.
Let's aid Iran when Israel does attack
How about we do nothing, and let them sort it out.
How about we do nothing, and let them sort it out.
Or we could aid neither and attack both.
How about we do nothing, and let them sort it out.
They're both pretty high on the asshole scale anyways.
If and When? Doesn't the last bit basically confirm they're going to wage war? I've not been keeping up with the Middle east for the past few months.
Title is quite misleading..
Israel told visiting US Gen. Dempsey that Obama would get no more than 12 hours notice before an attack on Iran, the London Times reports.
That says would get not will get.

No, it doesn't. It could be a political move to intimidate Iran or something. They very well could attack, but it isn't certain.
They're both pretty high on the asshole scale anyways.
yeah. america takes the lead in the asshole rank there
You might think that I'm pulling this out of my ass, but I'm just gonna throw my word here.
I've heard, from someone in the IDF (someone who I believe is a reliable source) that the American government assured Israel that if anything is going to go down, the US will land the first strike on Iran. Now, I can't be sure if that is 100% reliable, or provide any evidence for this, so take it as you will. But it kind of makes sense if you think about it. Israel doesn't want to strike Iran first, it would lead to conflict with a country that has a lot of military power. With the US providing first strike, the Iranian attention would not go towards Israel.
Or we could aid neither and attack both.
I say this because they're both different shades of shit.
So say we do wage war on Iran may I remind you a large supplier of the worlds oil? Im pretty sure any country whom gets oil from Iran would be pretty pissed if we do go to war.

I don't think it would make much of a difference. It would be much easier for Iran to attack Israel than America.
guys
guys
why dont we just
not do anything
and dont get involved like all the other times we have
Israel is a sovereign nation, so they do not need the US's ok. I do not think the American people really want a new war right now. However, I do think (imho) that wwe should support Israel as they are our allies.

iran is brown shit and israel is white/light brown shit
Israel National News and Al-Bawaba are the only news sources on this. So far I doubt it.

Why cant we stay neutral
Does anyone have any information on the United Kingdom's stance on this?
It will be interesting to see what David Cameron will decide to do.

Side with Israel because America.
Probably much like Canada.
I can't tell what facepunch wants to win. Iran is crazy. Israel is crazy. I think it is crazy that instead of doing things diplomatically they have to fight each other over some stupid religious values.

Believe me, religion has absolutely zero to do with this conflict. It's not even a peripheral issue. This is all about regional power projection politics. The US wants Israel to be the biggest, baddest dog in the Middle East. Iran getting nukes would kind of make that less than perfect.
Iran had something to do with 9/11 i say we invade them.

I think I'd rather have Israel be the big ones leading in the middle east over Iran. With Iran's strict anti-western views who knows what they'd do. What it comes down to is the safety of innocent people in both the middle east and the western world. I do not support the invasion of Iran but I do not want them developing a nuclear arsenal. When you bring nuclear weapons into the picture it becomes a whole new threat level. Plus I don't get the logic behind why they need them; those of you who do support their right to build them state that they should have them just a much as any other western nation does because you don't think they'll be used. If that's the case and they really won't be used anyways, then what's the point in having them? Nuclear dickwaving isn't cool, and it's too big of a risk with how unstable the middle east is.

I have a feeling the U.S would sit out, at first anyway. Back when Israel hit Iraq and Syria's nuke program nothing big really came of it.

Yeah, but they didn't openly admit at any nuclear program of any kind. Israel knew that Syria and Iraq can't just say "why did you bomb our nuclear facilities" because that would be admitting they have nuclear facilities. Iran already admitted to it, sort of, so they have nothing to lose.
