Impact of Neoguri on U.S. weather While the remnants of Typhoon Neoguri will not impact the U.S. directly, the large and powerful nature of this storm has set in motion a chain-reaction set of events that will dramatically alter the path of the jet stream and affect weather patterns across the entire Northern Hemisphere next week. Neoguri will cause an acceleration of the North Pacific jet stream, causing a large amount of warm, moist tropical air to push over the North Pacific. This will amplify a trough low pressure over Alaska, causing a ripple effect in the jet stream over western North America, where a strong ridge of high pressure will develop, and over the Midwestern U.S., where a strong trough of low pressure will form. This jet stream pattern is similar to the nasty"Polar Vortex" pattern that set up during the winter of 2014 over North America, and will cause an unusually cool third week of July over the portions of the Midwest and Ohio Valley, with temperatures 10 - 20°F below average.
http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/comment.html?entrynum=2722 Some more info too: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang/wp/2014/07/14/polar-vortex-deniers-are-wrong-heres-why/ Break out your coats.
I don't believe this shit for one second. Last time it was reported there would be a "huge cold snap across the entire country" a few states got a bit colder than normal and nothing else changed. I seriously doubt that Florida will drop below 50 degrees Fahrenheit, let alone down to 0
if true, good, it's been way too fucking hot lately [editline]banana[/editline] In Illinois. Checked and it's like 65F right now so clearly true. Feels so nice.

Compared to the previous winters of an average -15C to -20C, that's saying something. Which means our summer for the next little bit might get a max temperature of ~15C. Which is absolutely beautiful for me.
This isn't a cold snap. It's the Jetstream dipping down and allowing a glob of arctic air to sink into the US.

It was so bad it was predicted hypothermia would set in within 15 mins. It was literally colder than the north pole for the few days the coldsnap really hit.
It's already unusually chilly in Minnesota. I mean, it's not actually chilly, because that would mean it's just above freezing, but it's definitely colder than usual. Usually we're fucking roasting to death, being slow-cooked in water-saturated air and no breeze to save us.

It was 11.6 C when I drove in to work this morning. It's the middle of July. Last week it was around 30 C

Meanwhile, I am freezing my dick off here in Indiana because we are dropping into the 60s, but honestly after how fucking miserable winter was, we can handle this no sweat.

Just above Lake Superior we've been getting some really cold nights and cool days.
Florida is white, the line on the right says white means ~0.
0 change in average temperature. Aka 0 change from normal. [editline]15th July 2014[/editline] (Aka not colder or hotter) [editline]15th July 2014[/editline] It's a temperature anomaly map.
still blazing hot in arizona

and the west coast seems to be getting warmer than normal temperatures.
and the west coast seems to be getting warmer than normal temperatures.
Yep. That's a side effect of this. It's going to hurt with the drought already there.
Not even reaching 70 F today here in southeastern Michigan. Supposed to be in the high 70s by the end of the week, though.
Seems Europe will be burning :(
Can we bongs get some of that cold air. I don't like 21c as it is.
It's already fucking -40F in North Dakota in Winter, go back to the North Pole cold, I don't wantcha.
60F here in Illinois, I wish it was like this all summer long.
Fuck this Our winter was so fucking long, we had so much snow, and all we are getting is a shit load of wind and now even colder summer temperatures. If only there were warmer places I could go that aren't 3rd world countries or ass backwards
checkmate global warming sheeple [SP]not really[/SP]

It was already pretty cool yesterday, people wore long sleeves.
its like 67F right now im literally dying of happiness
Is it me or is the globe's temperature scale messed up, because 0° F isn't 0° C.
Is it me or is the globe's temperature scale messed up, because 0° F isn't 0° C.
It's temperature anomaly. A change of one degree is still a changel of one degree regardless.
