Inequality at work? - General

I work at a restaurant as a line cook and I've been there for a few months now. I am an 18 year old male, and I have pretty long hair, about halfway down my back. I was hired with my hair this long obviously, and the manager who hired me said that if I tied it in a ponytail and wore a hat, it was fine. There are a couple female cooks there with long hair and they do the same thing. Just recently another manager came back who has been gone for about six months. The first day I work with him, he tells me that I need to tuck my hair in my hat or wear a fucking bouffant cap. I'm thinking to myself, "What? Since when was this a rule?" I look in the employee handbook and it says nothing about having to wear a bouffant cap or stuffing your hair into your hat, and rather just says that long hair needs to be tied. The thing that is annoying me though, is the fact that when I'm working with a female with long hair, they don't have to do anything with their hair besides pull it back. I feel like I'm being singled out just because I am male, and its unfair. I even asked my one manager why the other one told me that I have to do this and he said it is so that none of my hair gets in the food. But what makes my hair more likely to get in food than a woman's? Is he allowed to do this or what? :wtf: I don't want to cut my hair or become a tranny, so before anyone suggests that, I'm just putting that out there.

Just cut your hair, males with stupidly long hair aren't attractive. Also he's probably more concerned with hygiene, nobody wants a hair of that length in their food.

Uh, how do you know he wasn't concerned with the food hygene/how do you know he didn't say anything to her/does she have longer hair than you/how do you know this wasn't a one time thing and he read the handbook later?

Anyways, you either need to convince him to let you put your hair up since girls can do it or do as he says. He may have grounds to fire you due to health codes, plain and simple. Also cut it to just over shoulder hight, looks cool and is practical, you can always grow it out again if you get in a band or something.

Many jobs require you to have a certain look. Such as clean shaved, dressed properly, etc... They have the right to determine how they want their employees to look.
