• Maine FINALLY legalizes switchblades for one armed individuals
CONWAY, Massachusetts (Reuters) - Maine lawmakers on Wednesday approved legalizing switchblades for people with one arm, moving close to becoming the first state to make such an exception to laws that ban use of the spring-action knives. Backers of the measure say legalizing switchblades would eliminate a need for one-armed people to be forced to open folding knives with their teeth in emergencies. The bill to allow amputees and other one-armed people to carry the quick-opening knives cleared Maine's Senate on Wednesday after passing the House on Tuesday, Senate officials said. Until now, Maine banned the use of switchblades by anyone. In most states, carrying switchblades is illegal in most circumstances, though owning the knives may be allowed in some states. Federal law allows their use by a person with one arm only on federal property if the blade is shorter than three inches. The Maine bill requires that the knives have a blade that is three inches or shorter. Governor Paul LePage is expected to sign the measure into law in the next couple of days, said spokeswoman Adrienne Bennett.
http://www.wtkr.com/news/offbeat/sns-rt-odd-us-maine-switchtre73644n-20110407,0,5148549.story
Why don't they just install a robotic arm with a knive at the end of it? You could be like this freaky bitch [img]http://theneonheart.com/skeleton/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/terminator3.jpg[/img]
I don't see why this is funny, have you ever tried opening a flip knife with your off hand? That's basically what it's like to have to try to open one in an emergency with one arm. I'm not speaking from experience, but I do know someone who has a dead arm and he agrees with it.
would eliminate a need for one-armed people to be forced to open folding knives with their teeth in emergencies.
that sounds like it would be pretty badass to watch if they did it fast enough.
Maine understands that all citizens have the right to bear arm.

Why can't they just use a knife that requires literally just a flick of the wrist? Or yeah, a utility knife. Now it gives scary looking criminals with one arm more of a reason to carry deadly weapons.
Use this then [img_thumb]http://site.unbeatablesale.com/img161/azcosc091524.gif[/img_thumb]
Who wants to fight with a 2 inch little razor.
That's a box cutter.
That's a box cutter.
Which uses a 2-inch razor to cut said boxes.
New sport evolves with the main attraction: one armed hobos...
Who wants to fight with a 2 inch little razor.
It functions like any other blade, it cuts and it could poke very hard. I think it's suffice to defend against a thug that's not expecting the victim to defend him/herself.
Who wants to fight with a 2 inch little razor.
Easier to put in, and easier to pull out. In otherwords... You can deal a shit-ton of damage if your fast enough.
Plenty of flip knives you can open with one hand with just a flick of your wrist
Who wants to fight with a 2 inch little razor.
Get someone in the face with a box cutter and they're down and out
Plenty of flip knives you can open with one hand with just a flick of your wrist
Or they could use a switch blade, which is likely much easier to open and less likely to mess up while tring to open it.
this is clearly a ploy to get dangerous weapons in the hand of the nation's one-armed children. i mean really, a knife in an emergency? what kind of emergency is that? one where you need to stab someone? one where you need to peel a potato? everyone knows in an emergency you call 911, not get a knife out.
I mean there are plenty of non switchblade knives that act very similarly and haven't been made illegal I don't see a reason to make switchblades illegal, it's fucking stupid the whole reason they are, but there's plenty of alternatives is what I'm saying For instance: This is the knife I carry around at the moment, only with a straight edge: On it is a little bit that you use your thumb to flip the blade out, and it locks open with a piece of metal that bends under the blade. You use your thumb to push that in and close the knife... All easy and fast with one hand. That's just an example, but works just as well. You can use your thumb to barely open the blade as you flick your wrist and it just opens and locks
I think everyone is completely missing the point with this law. I carry a victorinox pocket knife *everywhere* I go. It's under 3 inches and is non-locking. Some attractions ask you to hand in any sharp or pointed objects which I do, it's not like it's going to be confiscated or anything because it's not illegal. Yes you can do some serious damage even with a 2 inch razor, but proper knives are still very useful as tools for all kinds of things. Mine saves me a lot of time if I need to do something and I think this law is quite sensible.

i use a ballistic knife just because it sounds cool
A sudden surge in one armed bandits? haha.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assisted-opening_knife Yeah thanks Maine, the market sidestepped the ridiculous ban on switchblades several decades ago. In the future, how about we don't pass stupid fucking laws in the first place.
i use a ballistic knife just because it sounds cool
Too bad they're banned throughout the entire US.
I've seen people with one arm getting robbed and it's a disgusting sight. Hopefully this will help them.
A one armed person is going to get their ass kicked in a knife fight. Knife fighting is all about controlling the other person's blade using your off hand. If you have one arm and want to avoid being mugged, bring a gun.
I was robbed by an entire elite team of amputee bandits once, it was insane. A standard magazine should be sufficient, you probably wouldn't even need to fire it, just scare the shit out of the guy robbing you, and besides that all you would need is a few bullets, even if you missed you aren't going to waste an entire magazine of ammunition, or you shoulldn't be carrying it anyways.

I expected The Onion because of the humor post icon.

[editline]11th April 2011[/editline]
Try reloading with one hand.
should be fine with one magazine unless you get in a shootout similar to the O.K. Corral or something
