I've always wondered about political assassinations like this. How can anybody (even those going in to do the hit) be sure of the identity of the target? I suppose DNA ID can help, but then again, how did they know Bin Laden's DNA prior to this investigation?

Genetics and heritage.
Didn't they link his DNA to his sister or am I thinking of something else?

His sister's DNA, and I'm also pretty sure his sister confirmed the identity of the corpse.
