I am a avid Atheist. I enjoy this video because it makes sense. It explains what I believe very well. What do you guys think? I think this video is reason at its finest. How about you watch the video before you give me dumbs please. I love how people give me dumbs for advocating reason and critical thinking. Its like people want to be stupid. Haha. Here is another great video:
I hope you're only bashing the extremists that force their self-values and laws onto others, not the people who merely want something to believe in for faith and self-confidence. But I did watch that video, and it did bring up a few valid points. A few.

Well I just thought it was an interesting video and I wanted to see what Facepunch had to say about it. I think religion is detrimental in a lot of cases. Look at the tea party for example. They are extremely against science if it contradicts their religion. I have seen many a people who bash science and say it isn't true or it doesn't have enough evidence (I live in Oklahoma you see). Sure it makes people do some good things, but it also makes people do bad things, probably more bad than good, imo. See you don't need to have faith to feel like you are worth something. I count myself lucky that I was lucky enough to be born on this beautiful planet. Not by "god" but by the beauty of the universe. Also Buddhism is sweet, but I would rather devote the time spent on meditating, on Science.
I myself am an atheist, and it feels like you're trying to push this belief onto others. Sure, the OP may not seem assertive, but it appears that you've been a member here long enough to know that Religion v. Science discussions almost always go sour. I'll say this though: the suns are our gods and outer space their kingdom, and one day we'll join them, as cheesy as that sounds.

It deserves to be criticized. You don't need a "god" to feel like you mean something. Take this quote from the late George Carlin: "Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man -- living in the sky -- who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do.. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time! ..But He loves you." How much sense does that make? I also hate when religious people say "Why don't you Atheists just mind your own business", well here is what I have to say to that. Why don't you religious people mind your own business and keep your religion out of government, quit trying to tell me how to live my life. Religion will be the death of this world, but its not because your average religious person, it will be a president of a country or someone in charge who decides that he determines what the "Almighty" has to say and put his "will" into action. Next thing you know we will be in an atomic wasteland. Science is the way to go. The sooner we get off this tiny plant and colonize other ones, the better. Maybe we will send non-religious people to colonize those planets and maybe then they will have a fighting chance at making it. Religion is holding us back.
Tell it, brother; the world is approaching a precipice, and it's high time our species began to let go of childish things. I've no intention to let the kind of man who claimed "God" came to him in a dream and told him to invade Iraq, EVER come back into the command of a nation with one of the world's largest arsenals of nuclear weapons. As the song goes: "Won't you listen to reason? Won't you open your eyes? It's a wonder what you'll find, with an open mind! You may be surprised. Yeah-ah-ah! Gotta get away, from this illusion! For the sake of the world, this delusion, has gotta, gotta, gotta go-o-o-oooh!"

I personally don't believe that we should "Send non-religious people to colonize planets so they have a fighting-chance at making it"... People should learn how to be accepting of other beliefs ( Except West B. Baptist churches ). I for one don't bash on gays. I've got a couple of gay friends aswell. Religion does not equate to "Oh my, the cause of all violence in the world is caused by religion." Its this type of Doomsayer attitude that will be the end of the world. I believe in Evolution, and just because I'm religious it doesn't mean that I'll throw it out of the window because the bible says "Earth was created so and so years ago". I love how you state, within the first sentence in this thread that you are a "avid atheist". As if that wasn't trying to tell the world how you believe in something else. In short, you're no better than the extremists out there if you think that sending people with different beliefs, to different planets will solve anything.

I am an avid atheist *snort* *chortle*
Wrong thread, shit.
Let religion die at it's own pace, it will eventually, it's already started. I guess athiests would argue that their just trying to speed up the process. But forcing their ideas on people who have only religion in thier lives is dangerous and cruel.

Are you a christian? I will assume so. So you think you can just exclude whole parts of the bible, where is says gays are bad, and pretty the whole old testament. from your beliefs? You might as just throw away the whole bible. I am not mad at you seeing as you don't push your beliefs on other people, I am mad at the people in power who decide that just because they have "god" in their life that they can decide how I should live my life. I also hate that in America its better to be gay in most places than Atheist, its ridiculous. And no I am not trying to start a flame war, I am trying to help people think for themselves. Read the whole bible from cover to cover and tell me the whole thing makes perfect sense. It doesn't.
Remember the missionaries? "Anything you think is wrong and I am right. You are heathen and I am civilised" I think that people should be allowed to choose their own faith. An atheist state/world should never be totalitarian and oppressive of the people's decisions about their life..
So you think you can just exclude whole parts of the bible, where is says gays are bad, and pretty the whole old testament. from your beliefs? Most of the Christians I know are completely aware that there are problems with the bible.
You know, the bible isn't that important to most liberal Christians. Most of the Christians I know are completely aware that there are problems with the bible.
Why the hell do they believe it then?
Why the hell do they believe it then?
He doesn't know. He was taught to believe it probably by his parents. Humans have a narrow path of thinking. Your arguments hit a brick wall. It's a futile battle.
Hahah religion.
