I played through this mission yesterday and this cutscene amazed me on how well it was directed, so I decided to share. Feel free to hijack the thread with other cool cutscenes from other games! I sound like I'm 12 and posting on facepunch for the first time!
they should have turned this game into a movie imo
pretty fucking great for 2002 I used to play the shit out of this game, still remember all the songs
It's a shame it's not on Steam.
Such an awesome game, it felt almost ahead of its time with it's storytelling focus in what was essentially an open-world sandbox.
"Real damn professional" :v:
I wish 3 would play in the 30s aswell
It's a shame it's not on Steam.
I pre-ordered Mafia 2 back in the day and the original game was a bonus. So in theory it is on steam, people are unfortunaly just not able to buy it :(
*honk*....*honk*
I loved this game back in the day! Thanks for the memories :D
It's a shame it's not on Steam.
I managed to get Mafia II for free a couple years ago, but I couldn't get the first one. I can only hope they'll release the 1st one, now that Mafia 3 is right around the corner...
My friend had this game back in the day and I couldn't play it, I was only able to watch it. But everytime I hear this soundtrack at the beginning, I remember how epic it was.
Maybe my favourite cutscene from Mafia, from the same set of missions. Genuinely one of the best games I've played, this. The storytelling, authenticity, maturity and polish were just so far ahead of anything anybody else was doing at this point.
Mafia 3 is sadly not made by the same company but i still got my hopes for it. Some screens of Mafia 3 from a Dutch magazine.
I wish 3 would play in the 30s aswell
I fantasized about it being in the 1910s and the gimmick is that cars would be completely manual. You will have to press all the pedals and levers correctly. Something like Receiver. And car control was really different in that age, so that would be fun, slow, and technical.

At least I think that's how I got it.
One of the most well written games I ever played.
Shame Mafia is getting harder and harder to run on newer systems.
It's a shame it's not on Steam.
Mafia 1 used to be available for sale on Steam a couple of years ago but it was removed apparently. I bought it back in 2012 or something and I still have it in my library.
i loved the story of mafia but goddamn i did not find the gameplay fun whatsoever, especially the driving. the driving was possibly one of the most boring things i've done in a videogame to date. i'm not trying to be harsh, just serious; it was slow, clunky, and terribly unfun. While playing it I basically saw the cutscenes - which were all great - as rewards for trudging through gameplay that I found super dated and boring.
is Mafia 2 as good? I've had it in my Library for years but never got around to playing it.
Probably my favourite game that came out of my country. One of the best stories I played. I really can't name any other Czech game I hold in such regard. There are couple of military simulators but I'm not into those.

I found the gunplay okay considering the age but the story is what it was all really about. I hate to use the word "cinematic", but the game had a very strong motion picture-like presentation, with real actual character development and whatnot.
goodfellas
That's Mafia II though
is Mafia 2 as good? I've had it in my Library for years but never got around to playing it.
No, but Mafia II is still good. Just don't look at all the cut content before you play.
Saints Row 2 had some well made cutscenes, the fight between The Boss and Maero always stuck out in my mind for some reason
No, but Mafia II is still good. Just don't look at all the cut content before you play.
Mafia 2 is great, but there's very little to do beyond the story missions
Mafia II's simulation driving remains my favorite ever driving in any game.
I remember playing Mafia when I was like 12. The fucking parking garage, man. So many hours of literally raging my little ass off during that mission, but the story was so compelling that it kept me going. Or the ending when you [sp]kill sam[/sp] I had to try over so many times that I ended up memorizing exactly where to run, who to shoot in what order, which corner to get in, etc. And despite all that I trudged through what turned out to be one of the best games I've ever played, and even shed a tear at the ending. On my top 3 for sure.

All in all, at the time, the driving was pretty great and not as arcadey as GTA 3 IMO. The game obviously feels dated now, and has for quite some time, but considering it was 2002, there were not many games like it.
