• Italian woman has child taken from her womb by British social services
A pregnant woman has had her baby forcibly removed by caesarean section by social workers. Essex social services obtained a High Court order against the woman that allowed her to be forcibly sedated and her child to be taken from her womb. The council said it was acting in the best interests of the woman, an Italian who was in Britain on a work trip, because she had suffered a mental breakdown. The baby girl, now 15 months old, is still in the care of social services, who are refusing to give her back to the mother, even though she claims to have made a full recovery.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/10486452/Woman-has-child-taken-from-her-womb-by-social-services.html
what the hell, a forced caesarean? that's fucked up. no government or council should have the right to do anything like that
I could understand taking it away from the mother but surely after it's at least been born. The thought of being made unconscious and then waking up and seeing it's gone surely only made her mental condition worse.
As macabre as this sounds, if they genuinely believed that her mental state posed a risk to the child, then this is fine. Obviously, there's the fact that they took it out of her, but I don't see a reason that we should leave an unborn child in custody of its mother when we'd take a born one away.

She called the police, who became concerned for her well-being and took her to a hospital, which she then realised was a psychiatric facility. She has told her lawyers that when she said she wanted to return to her hotel, she was restrained and sectioned under the Mental Health Act. Meanwhile, Essex social services obtained a High Court order in August 2012 for the birth “to be enforced by way of caesarean section”, according to legal documents seen by this newspaper. The woman, who says she was kept in the dark about the proceedings, says that after five weeks in the ward she was forcibly sedated. When she woke up she was told that the child had been delivered by C-section and taken into care.

They claim that even if the council had been acting in the woman’s best interests, officials should have consulted her family beforehand and also involved Italian social services
What a slippery slope.
What the fuck.
What the shit, that's horrific.
What the fuck brits, that's beyond fucked up
the hatred I bear for my own country is pretty much splitting at the seams now.
the hatred I bear for my own country is pretty much splitting at the seams now.
why, because of individual accidents? why, you of all people, someone who probably never had to strain to have what he has now, harbor hate for an entire country, and not a select few people who led to these accidents? [editline]1st December 2013[/editline] I'm pretty sure whoever goes to power does not advocate forcible c-sections, ever and if they do, they are forcibly put out of power by people unlike you [editline]1st December 2013[/editline] entitled is what you are. I'd give so much to live where you do, and you scrutinize it for incidents that happen everywhere, under different basis perhaps, but still, they do happen
yeah you know people can have criticisms for the government they live under that's what citizens are supposed to do.
for a procedure that took 3 mental health workers and some additional 2 people who oversee the process to make a terrible mistake yeah, fuck the COUNTRY
who says i can't judge the people that hire those directly involved? that these kinds of processes shouldn't be made under the eyes of so few people? i'm ashamed of the government in this occasion. that doesn't mean i hate the UK entirely, but this doesn't brighten my opinion on it. boo hoo.
Because she had a Panic attack and she was Bipolar? Are you fucking kidding me? That's HARDLY a mental condition.
I try to love this country but things like this make me realise it's really fucked up
She just forgot to take her meds, way to make things escalate quickly. Should of just given her some new meds and kept her under surveillance until she calmed down.
i think just the lunacy of a situation where someone is holding my child, who was forcibly removed, for 15 months would give me a mental breakdown.
Hey thats a brilliant way to improve someones mental health, you know, taking away their unborn infant via surgery. God damn thats fucked.
Read that as special services
If they believed the woman could hurt or kill her fetus, then why is this a problem? The point of social services is to protect children, and a fetus that is intended to be birthed is essentially a child.

This is just awful. Also, so much for informed consent in regards to the medical procedure.
A forced abortion performed on someone who wasn't even a citizen? This is not only legal, but got actual approval from a high court to happen??
This is some grade A China style shit right here.
So should abortion be illegal
Worth pointing out that c-section is far more dangerous and brutal for the mother than a (professional) abortion. They literally rip the muscles that are in the way apart to save time due to danger of sedation for the children, instead of doing a precision surgery. It takes long rehabilitation for the woman and always leaves permanent damage (for instance the doctors rarely let you give birth without having c-section again, anymore).
