In a post on the Capcom Unity blog, the company's senior vice president Christian Svensson assured its audience that their questions and complaints had been heard. "[We] have begun the process of re-evaluating how such additional game content is delivered in the future," the post reads. "As this process has only just commenced in the past month or so, there will be some titles, where development began some time ago and that are scheduled for release in the coming months, for which we are unable to make changes to the way some of their post release content is delivered." Svensson highlighted Dragon's Dogma as the most prominent example of a game that will fall under the publisher's prior approach. Customer complaints regarding on-disc DLC surfaced following the launch of Street Fighter X Tekken. Hackers discovered 14 characters locked on the disc, which were intended to be released as DLC at a later date. Capcom initially claimed that it saw no distinction between varieties of DLC beyond the delivery mechanism, but the subsequent furore resulted in Capcom being downgraded by the Better Business Bureau. "It doesn't matter if you have to pay extra to access what you already payed for because it makes no difference in how you get it."
The only way to win me back is to have all of the new SFxT fighters and their respective alt costumes put in a $20 bundle. It'll be a steal.
$20 is still a hard sale. These characters should have been available from the start, considering they were shown in trailers way before the game even came out.
I'm okay with on disc dlc, at least with fighting games. you wouldn't want to be completely unable to play someone because they didn't pay for the 10 dollar dlc character to be downloaded to your game, would you?
Isn't 'On-disk DLC' and invalid term because the D stands for downloadable?
Well it could be downloaded from disc to hard drive
Oh well, much easier to crack the DLC then.
Or you know they could just release the content in mandatory patches so everybody can see it without having to buy it, quite a few companies do that already.
I've heard very commonly that microsoft is very finicky about patches.
I've heard very commonly that microsoft is very finicky about patches.
The exception to that is patches to allow for DLC, because microsoft like money.
FYI, Capcom also confirmed that Dragon's Dogma has on disc DLC. They confirmed it in one of their talk articles or something on their forums/site/whatever.
What's with Capcom lately? All of their releases have been horribly sub-par, with cut content and some overall less than average effort put in. I can't help but feel that they've been in a downward spiral ever since the mid 2000's, their games have just gotten worse and worse. Not that I can't enjoy them, but the quality has definitely fallen significantly.
For future releases? Better not release Monster Hunter 4 with this disc DLC ding dongness
