Isn't this the exact same thing XCOM: Enemy Unknown did?
Isn't this the exact same thing XCOM: Enemy Unknown did?
Yes and they did same sort of thing Bioshock Infinite if I remember right.
Also I never followed Deus EX mankind divided at all but damn that looks edgy.
Valve did it too, kinda, with the potatosack
"they can augment my dick!" comment of the video....right there
It's called marketing, you can buy it or don't.
It isn't that big of a deal.
imagine getting this mad about something that's entirely optional

Idk man I was kinda expecting most of the content at release to not be locked behind a paywall but if it's just marketing right?

You're missing the point.

"most of the content"? it looked like a couple of outfits
could you explain to me what the point is then? if someone wants to preorder a game it has nothing to do with you and literally doesn't affect you in any way

This isn't the first time a game has done this. People are acting like this shit is new. All it is is random bonus content that does not actually do anything for the core game.
People just wana cry for stupid shit.

I really liked how they did it for Bioshock Infinite. They didn't do anything like "pay $20 more and the handmen will have propeller hats", it was like "if enough people preorder, they all get XCOM: Enemy Unknown for free", which was $50 at the time. So that meant you could get a game that is already out, that you can already see gameplay footage for, and already see reviews of from everybody. Even if Bioshock Inifinite was the worst garbage since Superman 64, you still got a AAA game that you could say was reliably a good game, at only 10$ more than if you had just bought that game.
Naturally there was the barrier of a certain number of people having to preorder, but of course you just wait until it's unlocked to make sure.
And you're trying to defend the marketing tactics of the game in your avatar which are just so fucking disgusting and against consumers in a whole.
Seriously, are you blind or something? You shouldn't fucking accept this, it's your money they're trying to steal.
How is it stealing if you willingly pay for it without actually needing to, to play the game?
Are you stupid or something?

It affects how the industry treats its customers, and I refuse to support it. As do a lot of people it seems. Don't use the "You don't have to buy it" excuse. It's cheap. You can stand up against something that doesn't directly affect you, but may in the future with the development of the game industry.
A publisher is going to think twice about pulling this stunt if it gets backlash as hard as this. And that's what I'm protesting for.

An entirely optional pre-order bonus that you can wholeheartedly choose not to participate in is "stealing"?
The gimmick is really dumb, sure. But you're acting as if no other game has ever done anything like this before. I can name plenty of game devs that have done things like this (minus the "tier" crap) off of the top of my head in a more practical way.
They aren't "stealing" anything from you, stop acting like Edios is pounding your asshole raw. Speaking of which, it's Square Enix who you should be angry with.
I don't like the mentality of holding content hostage until the public on mass, preorder.
It's scummy as fuck.

how are any customers being mistreated? as far as I know you don't have to pay any extra to pre order a game, and you're getting free shit for doing so
a couple of item/weapon packs that are essentially trivial items and apparently an extra mission, which surely doesn't relate to the core game and isn't very long. you aren't losing anything by not pre ordering
what a fucking pointless argument this is

He didn't say he was angry with Edios though?
He didn't say he was angry with Edios though?
You're right, but it seems that the majority opinion is a huge blame towards the game devs rather than the publisher. In some other thread someone said outright that they're not buying the game because of this and the fact that it's "shit now" or something along the lines of that.
It's called marketing, you can buy it or don't.

"it's just marketing" is no excuse for bad marketing

Nah not really. You seem to think it's fine for a games company to either work on content they plan to lock behind a paywall just to try and drain that extra buck from a fan that just wants the best edition, or you're fine with them taking existing content and doing the same.
Either one, I don't support.

LOL just because i got a avatar and like Deus ex does not mean I'm defending it. All I'm saying is grow up and move on, Christ you're acting like they're the spawn of Satan. If you can't handle the notion of enjoying a game without having bonus content then you're a fool.
Calling it disgusting and against the consumers is a bit of a stretch. No one is forcing you to buy it, if you don't like the motion then don't pre order the game. The game isn't missing any features or content because you didn't preorder.
I'm not blind and they're not stealing any money from me because guess what I'm not preordering it. I'm going to wait for GOTY edition which will have all the bonus content and extras. You preorder and get bonus content, that simple. I bet you really hate people that give "free gifts with purchase" at the mall.
If someone really feels as if they deserve the extra money then so be it, who the fuck are you to tell people how to spend their money and what is worth it.
Wowy they really scammed me /sarcasm
The way they're doing it, yes.
Seriously, if anyone of you think "meh this is okay, have my money" then you're just a sheep trapped in this disgusting system.
Unless you've got an unlimited supply of money, just think people, care about your rights as consumers.
As I see it, I only pre-order a game if only I've seen enough gameplay of it (FO4 is a good example), am interested in it, and if I look at it and know I'll enjoy it, then it's my right to pre-order the game as I see fit, the extra stuff are just fluff for me
Just to be clear. I'm ok with special editions and such for people that want to show how much they support the franchise, like the game developer, whatever reason you want.
What I DON'T support, is when they try to make these ridiculous 'tier' options, with 5 or more different editions, that are just blatant attempts to try and make you push your money as much as you can. That's bullshit.
Just because it isn't forced, doesn't mean it's a thing I should just accept should be able to happen to any game.
Ladies and gentlemen, repeat after me.
WE DO NOT. PREORDER. GAMES.
Seriously. You want to know how the publishing companies got like this? They realized people would just throw money at them before they even knew what they were buying. You want to fix this? Don't preorder games.
Any games. Ever. Wait til they launch, then buy it if you want. Stop giving them money blindly, and they won't have the leverage for this kind of garbage.

or just do what you like with your money because you have a right to do so
i still can't fathom why anybody would give a shit that someone else has preordered a game. they're happy with their pre order, you're happy waiting until release and reading reviews. everyone is happy

Yeah, you can do whatever you want. But you forfeit your right to complain about problems like these when you've fed into the cause in the first place. If you've already bought the game, and it comes out as a steaming pile of hot garbage, it's your own fault for buying it before you had a chance to see that it was a steaming pile of hot garbage. Nobody to blame but yourself.
What really grinds my gears is when people pre-order something, and then complain that it's shit, even when the company that made it is known for making shit. Either pre-order and don't complain, or wait until it releases and read the reviews.

no. no. no. everything has to be an argument, everything has to be some form of protest. I CAN'T POSSIBLY HANDLE THE THOUGHT OF PEOPLE DOING THINGS I DON'T AGREE WITH.

who are these imaginary people that are complaining about their pre orders? what, someone tweets, or starts a thread or whatever about the game and complains? that still isn't your problem. close the thread, scroll past the tweet and be happy in your decision to not pre order the game

Good idea. In fact, what does any of this really matter? Why are we even here? Why are we all arguing over this?
Fuck it, I'm out.
