The Oscar-winning King of the World told the New York Times that he's only in "the Avatar business" now. "I’m making Avatar 2, Avatar 3, maybe Avatar 4," Cameron revealed during an interview about the Chinese film industry. "I’m not going to produce other people’s movies for them. I’m not interested in taking scripts." While Cameron admitted that the all-Avatar, all-the-time career arc might seem a "bit restricted," he says the films allow him to say "everything" he needs to say about "the state of the world." He'll also continue to produce documentaries. While the comments might seem surprising, looking at Cameron's resume tells you they aren't. The director has released just two feature films since 1997 (Titanic and Avatar), and a handful documentaries (Aliens of the Deep, Ghosts of the Abyss, Expedition: Bismark, Titanic: The Final World with James Cameron). As a producer, Cameron has been slightly more active; beyond his own films, he's also handled Steven Soderbergh's Solaris in 2002 and the underwater cave dive adventure Sanctum in 2011. (Additionally, his tireless work extolling the virtues of 3D filmmaking has convinced some heavyweight Hollywood directors like Martin Scorsese and Michael Bay to use the format in new and exciting ways.) As for the Avatar sequels, don't hold your breath waiting for them to arrive. Producer Jon Landau said recently that Avatar 2 might not hit theaters until 2016; the film was initially set for a 2014 release.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/07/james-cameron-avatar-4_n_1495054.html?ref=entertainment
If they are as good as the first then by all means go ahead.
james cameron can't write dialogue for the life of him and it really, really shows i was cringing all the way through the first movie at how shitty everything was except sigourney weaver
Fuck where's his beard gone.

sometimes i get the impression that he should have made a fake nature documentary about the world he made rather than trying to make a story, it was a really pretty movie but not much else He should have hired someone else to write the movie, maybe then we wouldn't have put up with "unobtanium" and the fact that there are apparently three cultures of blue cat people: the ones that ride horses, the ones that ride dragons, and the ones that ride horses and dragons the whole final battle seemed cut and paste from a generic template and was really predictable this whole movie was just filling tired ideas and lazy writing into a shiny 3D cgi shell
Time for him to retire and never do movies again, if that's the case.
If they are as good as the first then by all means go ahead.
If they are BETTER than the first. Avatar's strength was in the visuals, but everything else was pretty fucking mediocre.
I really don't get the hype surrounding Avatar. I thought the characters were stupid and unlikable. Pandora wasn't even that good as a setting either, it just felt like it was just screaming "LOOK AT THIS LOOK AT HOW WONDROUS AND OUT OF THIS WORLD IT IS!" throughout the whole film. Plus everyone kept telling me how great the CGI was but when I watched it all I could think the entire time was "wow this looks so cheesy and unrealistic".
It's just another way on making money for him. He seems really into deep sea exploration now, even more so than before.
Avatar 2: Journey to a New World
Avatar 3: Journey to another world Avatar 4: Trip to another planet Avatar 5: There are quadrillions of planets, don't think we're done here
I saw on the news probably in early April that he was looking at the underground ocean but I forgot the purpose. I thought he was making another movie that wasn't Avatar? I didn't really like the movie that much. It looked good but the story was a little bit weird, although original.

Felt like your ordinary love story to me.
Jesus christ Am I the only one here who actually liked Avatar?
There goes another Aliens.

I've heard a lot of complaints about the film but the CGI has never been one of them. What didn't work for you? Please note that "everything" is not an answer. Personally, Avatar is one of the most visually impressive films I've ever seen. Almost every aspect of the CGI (which comprised more than 70% of the film, if I remember correctly), was borderline if not fully photorealistic. Beyond that, they FINALLY created humanoid characters that never once fell into the uncanny valley, which is an achievement in and of itself.
Jesus christ Am I the only one here who actually liked Avatar?
It was a good movie. I gave it 7/10. It wasn't amazing and got a huge reception mostly because of a gimmick. I think that's most Facepuncher's problem with the movie. It looked beautiful but most of the rest was pretty sub par.
What immensely disappointing news. I'm already tired of avatar and I want James Cameron to go back to making Arnold Schwarzenegger films, dammit.

Half the time I felt like I was watching a cartoon or something. I think all of the CGI just seemed really exaggerated or something, I'm not really sure. Plus I feel that the trick to making good, realistic CGI is to have it as subtle as possible. This involves carefully blending the use of CGI with traditional methods too, something that Avatar barely took note of. When 90% of everything is fake I think that it really shows.

I hope he just copies another Disney story but makes it about aliens. Mulan would be good with some nice CGI.

James Cameron just loves surfing on waves of mediocrity.
Fuck where's his beard gone.
Pandora.
I want to see more movies like "The Abyss".
Still waiting on the retail releace of Avatar blu-ray 3d.... He made it a panasonic exclusive which has spread to other companies making 3d blu-ray exclusvies... /sigh
They better make a good reason for Humanity to return back to Pandora, other than for 'revenge' or something stupid like that.
