no Brits?
no deal
The Brits will probably be next. Relic said they wanted to make CoH2 the ultimate WW2 platform, so adding the Brits would be logical.
Mod support and several other things people have been asking for are coming as well.
COH2 is shit.
COH2 is shit.
Why?
[editline]30th May 2014[/editline]
I checked and you don't even own the game, so I'm not sure how you can give an opinion on it, but I'd like to hear why you think it's shit.
woah coh2 came out?
and people bought it??

I played the beta, it really wasn't that great.

I dunno it just didn't feel right and didn't feel like much of an improvement over CoH 1, its been a while since I played that but I just remember not being all that enthralled

Ah, that's okay. If you just didn't really like how the game played then I think you'll still not like it now, but the game's been improved quite a bit.
I think the thing I dislike with Company of Heroes 2 is how rigid the construction is
For example: Soviet engineers can build barbed wire, but they can't build sandbags, for those you need to use conscripts.
Also a soviet penal battalion, whilst carrying a flamethrower, can apparently freeze to death in a blizzard because they can't build bonfires, you need to use conscripts or engineers to do that. Even ordering the flamethrower to attack ground doesn't do anything to save the squad from the cold.
The entire game is filled with lots of small issues like this.
I didn't get it because I didn't like how fast-paced and offensive-orientated it was when I was playing the Beta, I liked CoH1 better because defensive warfare was viable.

I'm in the alpha for this expansion and I can't tell you a whole lot about it because NDA, but you may like this expansion.
Yeah the entire gameplay and damage system felt really weak and arcadey. There was also a severe lack of units and variation and it just gave the impression that they had dumbed it all down in an attempt to grab more people.
[editline]30th May 2014[/editline]
Playing 1 with blitzkrieg continues to be one of my favourite RTS games and I'm still kind of bummed out that 2 lacked the semi-realistic feel that the first one had, adding in new units, buildings and features might solve the content issue but the rest seems to be tied more into the engine.

Well actually the Soviets and Germans have just as much if not more units than the CoH1 factions right now. And CoH2 is far from dumbed down with things like the truesight and vaulting. And also the damage system is the exact same sort of thing as CoH1.
Iunno guys I played CoH1 a while after playing CoH2 and it honestly felt way shittier and less polished than CoH2. It also felt like it was lacking really important things like the truesight, vaulting, better vehicle pathing, and several other things.
[editline]30th May 2014[/editline]
Things have changed a lot since the beta and I suggest you guys give it a try again, because Relic have improved how they do things a lot and the game's been improved massively as a whole.
I wasn't a huge fan of CoH2 when I played the beta but I gotta say these trailers are pretty slick for an RTS.
Company of Heroes is so incredibly bad in comparison to Men of War (any of them), if you're looking for an incredibly realistic WW2 shooter I'd recommend it.

That hardly makes it bad, just a different type of game. It's like comparing Battlefield to Arma. CoH1 is arguably the most acclaimed RTS ever made.

I have to disagree. MoW feels incredibly shitty and unpolished when I played it. It isn't even historically accurate, pretty much 90% of the tanks the Japanese have are prototype tanks that were never actually used. Plus you can select units of any time period, so you're driving around your M3 Lee while there's a M26 Pershing driving next to it, how is that realistic?

Again, things have changed since the beta and the game has been improved massively. When there's a free weekend people should give it a try again.

If they wanted to make it the ultimate ww2 platform surely they should add the japanese next seeing as brits was already done in coh1? Infact they should have done japanese now as coh1 was what this whole expansion is about.
Shame really, i was actually expecting them to make coh2 about the japanese and not the eastern front...

For me it was the way the servers were set up, from what i can remember when i played the beta you couldn't host your own game with your own settings and such. I also disliked that you couldn't build much defenses. However the thing i hated the most was the leveling system, and the unlockable and customizable commander trees.
Overall i still prefer blitzkrieg mod for coh1 over coh2. Maybe if this expansion changes many things i'll buy it but probably not.

It's really hard to make a CoH game about the pacific though. Actually it's hard to make a RTS about the pacific in general. It would be a bitch to balance because all of Japan's tanks were shit and they didn't have much AT weapons. The sherman would be like a Pershing in comparison to the Japanese tanks. And how would you create proper maps for it? There were a lot of dense jungles and mountainous desert islands which is hard to do right without vehicles getting stuck because their pathfinding gets fucked.

And by that I mean the server handling and the poor balance have been fixed. What game isn't poorly balanced when it's still in beta? CoH1 took 6 years to balance properly.
Why do you think the levelling and the commander system are shit though?
CoH2 is a good game.
It's just not as good as vCoH.
CoH1 took 6 years to balance properly.
I'd argue that CoH was pretty well balanced just before Opposing Fronts came out and fucked everything up forever.

I disagree.
I personally dislike the CoH2 because of its limited (read: actively disabled) modability. CoH1 is amazing and long-lived precisely because of all the awesome mods that were created for it. I've lost track of how many times I've reinstalled the game and all of the addons for it just to play a new modification.
I really don't like it when publisher pushes the devs to disable any means to mod the game for the sole reason of selling DLCs.
Company of Heroes 2: rushed cash grab edition.
This is coming from a guy who played it a ton during beta. The game is seriously at the level of a mod for coh1. The lack of any real changes whatsoever is pretty shocking. What the hell did the devs do all development?

Mod support is coming. I'm not entirely sure if it's gonna happen when the expansion comes out or after, but it will come.

Really? There are a ton of improvements to the engine and a lot of new features.

Considering it is just COH1 repackaged you'd think mod support would be there from the get go...

what kind of improvements? I noticed none. Graphics looked near identical to COH1 and to add insult to injury the game ran worse for whatever reason. Russians are just reskinned Americans, their tech tree is exactly the same, and Germans they didn't even bother changing.
All that being said the gameplay was fun and I put a bunch of hours into it when it was free. But seriously $60 and DLC they try to goad you into buying ontop of that? Go fuck yourself devs this game is worth $20 tops.
