I just ordered one of these and I can't wait to learn it. Copy pasta The theremin (/ˈθɛrəmɪn/[1]), originally known as the aetherphone / etherophone, Thereminophone[2] or termenvox / thereminvox is an early electronic musical instrument controlled without contact from the player. It is named after its Russian inventor, Professor Léon Theremin, who patented the device in 1928. The controlling section usually consists of two metal antennas which sense the position of the player's hands and control oscillators for frequency with one hand, and amplitude (volume) with the other. The electric signals from the theremin are amplified and sent to a loudspeaker. The theremin is associated with a very eerie sound, which has led to its use in movie soundtracks such as those in Spellbound, The Lost Weekend, and The Day the Earth Stood Still and as the theme tune for the ITV drama Midsomer Murders. Theremins are also used in art music (especially avant-garde and 20th- and 21st-century new music) and in popular music genres such as rock. Psychedelic Rock bands in particular, such as Hawkwind, have often used the theremin in their work. If you want to build your own, you can. Here's the kit that Moog provides for the etherwave model. An instrument I don't really like. Mostly because 99 % of all people who think they can play it suck ass. And the actual sound itself ain't too pleasant. But it has a novely value I guess. I liked the Star Trek video! That guy brings geekiness to a whole new level. :v:
Its a freakish instrument, but also very fun!! Its tough to get any sort of melody with that thing, its tough
I wish you luck in your quest to keep pitch. On a somewhat related note, these are awesome documentaries: http://www.amazon.com/Theremin-Electronic-Odyssey-Leon/dp/B00005BKZO http://www.amazon.com/Moog-Charlie-Clouser/dp/B00095L94W
Theremins are awesome, good luck OP
I've always been interested in the theremin but I can't convince myself to spend money on one. I've been using my graphics tablet to control a virtual theremin on my computer :haw: *EDIT* Someone post a link to a cheap theremin
The Star Trek video made me ...

The Moog Etherwave is pretty much as cheap as you'll get with a production model, but you can build them from scratch and sort of have control over how much you will spend. My favorite theremin cover: The actual theremin doesn't start until about 2:15 I believe.
Hello I thought I'd give you all a update. Right now I'm practicing with existing songs out there and playing along with them. Practicing with pitch control and how high/low the volume should be. This is a really fun, cool instrument and it's definitely going to take time to master. If you guys have $150+ to spend, I would recommend a theremin.
