• Facepunch Donates to TFYC - Raise $2k, Design a Character!

What is TFYC? Hello everyone! For those of you who aren't familiar, The Fine Young Capitalists (TFYC) is a feminist charity organization which works towards building representation in the video game industry via giving women the opportunity to create their own proposals and gaming projects, and giving proceeds for charity donations. According to their official website: (http://www.thefineyoungcapitalists.com/Voting)
The purpose of The Fine Young Capitalists is to create the means for that production. To allow people that would not have access to the funds or labour to present their ideas and be given the change to have it judged on only its merits. The creator of these ideas will never lose ownership. All of the art, programming and everything we create will be licensed to them so they can present their idea to anyone that will listen. The only condition is that we get the chance to present it to the public and help them in making the game come to life. Now, you have the chance to support the creators and so the women in the videogame industry. If you choose you can become a backer of any one of these woman’s game. We want you to be critical and judge which one of the five pitches you think it'd be a success. You will get profit participation in the game for your contribution as well as a copy of the game. Part of every dollar the game makes will go to a charity you choose. The money that you give will pay for the salary of professional video game developers that will take the creator vision and bring it to life. The artists will be paid, the creator will receive royalties and you will have backed a project created by a women because you believe that woman can succeed in business. All of the code for the game will be open source. All of the games support modding. Even if you don’t have a money to spend you can help the production.
TFYC recently was at the center of the #GamerGate/Quinnspiracy drama. However, the charity has broken away from the original drama, and has gradually raised a huge amount of money in order to support their women dev teams. What happens at $2k? According to the TFYC's official indiegogo page, a $2,000 donation amount leads to custom character creation. Simply put, the $2k's donor(s) are allowed to give character details towards to TFYC's artists, and the artists will render a character representation that can be implemented into the final produced video game. If you are familiar with the /v/ backstory, this is how Vivian James was created - 4chan exceeded $2,000 in donations, and artists did a render of Vivian James. This later happened with reddit as well. So, what does this mean for Facepunch? If we donate a collective $2,000 to TFYC, we can create our own character for inclusion in the TFYC's final product! The artists will render concept art for us and we can create our own little (feminist) representation of Facepunch. Not just does it show solidarity with the TFYC's goals to promote women in video gaming, but it also shows support for others who have come out to stand with TFYC and defend them during the past few weeks. How do I help donate to Facepunch? Use this referral link! Make your donation through here. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-fine-young-capitalists--2/x/8560087 How much money have we currently raised? As of 7:14PM EST 9/2/14: $180.
I won't have any money for a while but can I still help design a character?
I won't have any money for a while but can I still help design a character?
Of course! If we reach $2k, our character should be created by everyone who chooses to participate. In my opinion, anyway. That said, I would really like our character to be a transgender woman, because there are no current transgender women in the TFYC character roster, and it would be a huge show of support for TFYC as being trans-friendly. But we can have a discussion on what we want our kid to look like, you don't have to donate (although it's highly encouraged).
Facepunch is a chav in a gasmask. Not quite Mister Foster, but dressing a lot worse. a sarcastic social reject who thinks he's much cooler than he is. unkempt hair poking out of the mask, and always holding a can of soda, which he fights for vehemently
I still say that if we reach 2k that we create an albino character. Fits the colors of the website, and s/he has a disability. Win-Win S/he also must hate Cats and love Gas Masks.
the character needs to be something incomprehensively shitty
he also thinks he knows a lot about the army despite never firing an actual gun. He's got a lot of airsoft guns though so don't mess with him [editline]3rd September 2014[/editline] also, FP's character should be named Rusty, after everyone's favorite mod and the game that we've become known for.
the character needs to be something incomprehensibly shitty
Or we could just make something nice for once. That said, it'll probably be really hard to make a character out of FP since it's pretty diverse.
FP is too varied and conflicting to create a little mascot for our small, insignificant video game forum. Plus 99% of this sounds like trying to copy 4chan and Vivian James, because we're just as cool as them and we can do their original ideas too!! I appreciate the cause the money is going to but copying whatever 4chan does isn't the best way to be going about it. [editline]2nd September 2014[/editline] Besides, if you take a really good look at Facepunch as a whole, most of the traffic is for Rust and SH. A character based on the attitudes here wouldn't be pleasant And making them transgendered? Have you forgotten about the massive transphobic climate here? The raids on crossdressing threads, biased mod bans, trolling & flaming crews, any TG-related article in SH?
I'm pretty not enough people on here give a damn enough to raise 2000$ I mean don't get me wrong but you're asking 2k from a demographic of mostly 17-20 year olds with not that much for disposable income I believe.

So I wasn't aware of that. I usually go outside of FP since I'm part of other gamer trans communities anyways.

I'll probably put something in when I get my next paycheck, this is a good cause even if we don't get to design a character.

We have one or two dickheads who pop up in those sorts of threads and start talking shit, but on the whole I think FP is generally fine with it. A transgendered video game character would be kickin' rad if they work hard on a genuine portrayal and stick away from the Frat-Pack-Film stereotypical portrayal

There's still a lot of hate in every thread when it comes up, which sucks, and it's not just "one or two people". I would say it's definitely gotten much better over the years though.

The last couple I've seen (Chelsea Manning etc) have had a couple of people come in intentionally using the wrong pronoun (he/she) but beyond that I haven't seen any nastiness recently
Most trans hate I see on FP is just ignorance and not understanding how complicated transgenderism is. Though I haven't really popped into newer trans threads so I have no idea if it's still the same or not.

Sympathetic ratings. Most people don't want to post due to SH people and trans haters who usually stick to a certain board.

I think that it should be possible to achieve. Also, stop being pessimistic

I'm putting some money in, and I'm perma skint, so I'm pretty sure some of the more financially stable fpers could quite easily throw a couple of dollars this way
It needs to be a female/trans version of Garry.
I'm not in for various reasons 1. I don't have money 2. I wouldn't donate to unknown organizations, i would gladly donate to companies that actually help sick people
I'm not in for various reasons 1. I don't have money 2. For example, 4chan is donating to "chemo butthurt" and their money is going to the Colon Cancer Alliance.

I'll put in some money after Uni today, I didn't need to eat today anyway :v:

It really divides people, including myself.
That's a shame. I hadn't been on FP until after I transitioned, and I've only hung out in a few threads on here, so I didn't realize the climate on here for trans people.
I'm a mediocre artist, I could help out.
I'm a mediocre artist, I could help out.
How about black hair, beanie, lighter or darker skin, t-shirt with tanktop underneath, and blue jeans. Slightly pear body shape and mostly flat-chested.

I don't think Facepunch needs a character at all.
