I love the helicopter sound of the wire unspooling
I fucking love two stage missiles.
It's amazing how the missile didn't have to physically hit the tank in order to obliterate it!
Wait what, it doesn't actually hit it? That's one powerful blast.

Same premise as a nuke. It's doing more damage up there than it would otherwise.

Also it's thanks to these that tanks are being phased out in modern wars
You see the asshole who shot that? no? exactly.
I'd love to see a countermeasure for this.

How does it the tank?

Looks like this Psyduck was born with downs :v:
The shockwave blew up the ammo in the tank. The big explosion isn't the rocket, it's the tank itself.
I'd love to see a countermeasure for this.
Some modern IFVs and APCs are going to be equipped with Quick Kill systems that basically fire and blow up rockets before they get close enough to do any damage. Some variants have been used successfully against these sorts of things.
Also, keep in mind this was a T-72, and not the most recent replacement, with upgrades.

Yep, also why the turret goes flying.
This kills the tank.
I wonder how something as solid as an Abrams would react to a TOW Missile.
Probably wouldn't penetrate the ammo rack.
The sound it makes is orgasmic.

It would.
They should add a screaming sound to it.
When you see it coming at you from the horizon all you hear is "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
Don't some TOW missiles fire a jet of hot metal or explosives into the target?
Looks like what happened here, unless they did put ammo in there.
If the explosive substance of the missile just blew up above the tank nothing would happen. Instead there's a downward directed shaped charge in the missile that is designed to penetrate the comparatively thin top armor of the tank.
However I do think the tank was stuffed a with a little bit more than just some ammo. As far as I know there are no guarantees a real ammo storage would explode like that every time(no doubt the missile would still completely debilitate the tank and kill the crew).

Like in Serious Sam.
I was thinking to myself, that poor bird flying over the tank before it 'sploded. :ohdear:

The biggest problem is not blowing up all of the friendlies around you.
Same premise as a nuke. It's doing more damage up there than it would otherwise.
That's a grossly unspecific explanation.
A nuke is an area-effect weapon; it is usually detonated in the air so that the blast isn't absorbed by the ground as much.
An AT warhead on the other hand utilizes a shaped charge which tries to direct as much energy into as little an area as possible, unlike an area-effect weapon. In this case, the TOW warhead detonated in the air to give the explosive-formed penetrator time to form and become sharp enough to pierce the T-72's armor.
They are both weapons that require a certain standoff distance to inflict maximum damage, but otherwise, that's all the commonality that they have.
Yep, also why the turret goes flying.
Mostly because the ammunition is stored in a carousel autoloader in the hull. It's actually relatively uncommon.

Have you taken a look at other APS systems like AMAP-ADS?

Defense contractors always overhype their weapons.
God DAMN it just fucking gutted that thing.
I wonder how something as solid as an Abrams would react to a TOW Missile.
Here's a rough estimate of the RHA protection of an M1A2:
Turret: 1320-1620 mm
Glacis: 510-1050 mm
Lower front hull: 800-970 mm
A TOW-2A would likely punch through the hull and glacis, but that's only a rough guess.
However, a TOW-2B is top-attack, which gives all that heavy armor a big "fuck you" and attack the thin top armor.
Probably wouldn't penetrate the ammo rack.
The ammo rack is the rear turret bustle. Any significant AT weapon that hits there is going to likely ignite the ammo.
