• Chances of moving to the USA?
    243 replies, posted
Greetings, Facepunch. I currently live in Sweden, but I have always dreamed of moving to the USA. It has always been my dream country, and I do everything I can to honor it. Most people have told me that I'm too caught up in the american dream to stop and look at the facts. The meh health care system, the jobs crisis etc. I do realize that the USA might not be flawless, but god damn it, I still love it and I can't really explain why. So well, to cut to the chase: what would be my chances of one day living there? I know that my best shot would probably be to get in through close relatives, but I don't really have any close relatives living there. I do have some that we are still in touch with (they live in California, I believe) but again, they aren't exactly close. As much as I'd love to one day live in the USA, I can't help but think that my dream will never come true. Oh, and if this is the wrong section to post this in, then please do tell me. I couldn't find any better place to put this in. This song is an inspiration to me (although I'm not american):

How old are you, OP? Depending on your age, maybe you could move over there to study [editline]2nd February 2011[/editline] IMHO, the only reason why I'd live in the States would be because of the Detroit muscle cars... guddamn I love muscle cars

Why would you move away from Sweden, it must be much easier to live in Sweden than USA. Sure it would be cool but its just another country.
I often slag off America and all that but in all reality would love to move there.
i was under the impression if yellowstone blows its load pretty much the entire planet is in for a bad time
Global winter for everyone!
Don't!
I live in America. It isn't really that great. From what I've seen, Sweden has everything better than us.

If you're white we let you in easy. Otherwise you can sneak in, also easy.
America isn't as great as you think it is. Full of bullshit and lies, and some things here will make you rage Everyone who rated me disagree lives in their own little dream world

To clear some things up: I never stated that I wanted to move to California, I just pointed out that I had some relatives over there. And yeah, it would probably be easier for me to live in Sweden, but this country is going to hell in my opinion with its socialistic piece of crap government wanting everyone in this country to have the SAME salary. And sure, as I said, the USA may not be flawless, but I just love the country so much. I can't really explain why, I just do. I'm 15, by the way. EDIT: Yes, I know that it was our former government that wanted this, but I was making an example since our former government has been the leading party for years.
If you live in Sweden, be happy. Don't move to the USA unless you have been promised a really good job over there.

Song in OP made me, an american facepalm. I hate over nationalistic americans. Advice for OP: I don't really see why you couldn't live here. Just move to a more immigrant friendly state. It's really not that bad over here depending on where you want to live. Personally i'd love to move somewhere else but that's because i hate how the world sees us.
You should move to California it's awesome here

First you've got a ways to go if you plan to travel here all by yourself Secondly, if you did make it over at such a young age, you'd be stuck in California (eww) for quite a while until you managed to get on your feet ;) Also you just can't love a country so much without a reason; there has to be one. Was it our history that inspired you? the Revolution? the founding of this country or the people who did it?

When you're 18 or so come take a trip to america and experience it first hand, if you like it well then start saving all your money up and settle down in the states.
Well if you're going to have a 300 million bowl of eggs a few of them are going to be bad!

Well I'm not into immigration, but don't come until are economy is fixed or has a complete overhaul within 10 years. Our economy sucks enough as it is. If you want to live in the U.S. I suggest Orange County in California. Not too full of stereotypical idiots that dwell within SoCal
