Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS has sold over 1 million copies in Japan, Nintendo announced today. The game was released this past Saturday (September 13th) and achieved that figure in its first week, including download sales. Additionally, Nintendo said that retail shipments for the game crossed the 1 million mark at the end of last week as well. Super Smash Bros. is the latest to join the ranks of other games that have sold 1 million copies on the Nintendo 3DS in their first week. These other titles include Monster Hunter 4, Pokémon X/Y and Yo-Kai Watch 2: Head/Founder.
http://www.siliconera.com/2014/09/15/super-smash-bros-3ds-sells-1-million-first-week/ for comparison Watch Dogs sold about 4 copies worldwide in its first week Feels good knowing traditional games can still sell up to par with modern games [editline]15th September 2014[/editline] *4 million for Watch Dogs, FP won't let me edit
who is surprised
for comparison Watch Dogs sold about 4 copies worldwide in its first week
heh
Nintendo is dead and should go to smartphones
I think Super Smash Bros. 4 will save the Wii U.
It's not even been a week since its release yet. Three days ago, wasn't it? So most of these sales have either been pre-orders, shittons of them during those three days, or fuckload of street dates broken. Either way, glad to see it's such a success, even if the 3DS version is kinda barebones outside of the roster.
I think Super Smash Bros. 4 will save the Wii U.
Hopefully so. If it fails to, I'm afraid that Nintendo might pull a Vita on it.
First week? It came out on Saturday.
The Wii U is doing fine, Mario Kart 8 is already selling millions
If I recall correctly the Wii U is still not turning over a profit though.
not really smash and mk8 did great, but what else is there on the horizon thats going to be sucking wiius off the shelves? i guess bayo 2 and thats about it, the almost complete lack of third party support is still hurting the wiiu pretty bad
Open world zelda, new star fox, that splatoon IP, Xenoblade Chronicles X, that yoshi story-looking game, plenty of cool stuff IMO! Not much third party content but they're holding pretty well for now.
It will get to a point where the first-party install base is big enough that third parties consider the Wii U a worthwhile investment.

Love Nintendo, but they have made some really asinine decisions lately.
(Resident Evil 4 was a Gamecube exclusive!)
Uhh, what?
Uhh, what?
It started as a GC exclusive, it didn't end up on other platforms for a decent while. Edit: Yep, it was a timed exclusive, the PS2 version came 9 months later.

RIP in pieces all 3DS circle pads in Japan
Still no F-Zero though Please nintendo, you can make dreams come true
I don't think you realize how poorly that would sell. It would be a terrible business decision. Same goes for metroid and other fan favorites. It sucks but what can you do.
I gotta say I've been playing the demo and its fantastic. I cant judge how the final game will be but the feel of the game is amazing when you consider its a handheld game. I can't wait for the release here.
I think Super Smash Bros. 4 will save the Wii U.
Pretty certain it will. It was probably the biggest highlight on E3, or at least it seemed like everyone went nuts over it, in comparison to everything else.
First week? It came out on Saturday.
But it ALREADY sold that number, so at the end of the week its still true. You could say "sold x copies in the first three days" but its not as easy to compare it to. You could also say it broke a million in the first fortnight, but again nobody uses that metric either.

Also there are a ton of great games already out, albiet they're improved ones for the wii u. Stuff like Human Revolution, Shovel Knight, Wind Waker are really fun games and they're not getting bogged down for being released on Wii-U, in fact there's only improvements as far as I can see due to the gamepad being used properly. There are also some fun games like the Wii Sports games and Nintendo Land. But I am very scared that this mindset isn't shared. I really want the Wii U to succeed, mostly because it's a great development platform for indie developers and it allows you to do a ton of new ideas with that gamepad for non-splitscreen multiplayer games.
Hey guys, I didn't know Japan was considered a world-wide release. Could we at least compare it to how Watch-Dogs did in Japan, or at least wait until SSB4 gets a world-wide release to actually compare sales? I mean, Japan is a relatively small part of the world, I believe.

Some Youtubers and streamers (if not most who want to remain relevant in Smash) are doing the same. And in Japan, Smash Bros almost as hype as how Dragon Quest used to be. Keep in mind Dragon Quest releases in Japan were like a national holiday.

I love Dragon Quest games but a bunch of newer ones haven't been released here.

it was supposed to be full exclusive, but capcom found a loophole and went for it which was funny because initially, the ps2 version did poorly.
