Gordon-Levitt, who had major roles in The Dark Knight Rises, Brick, and Looper, said he would be working with The Dark Knight's story writer, David Goyer and Gaiman himself on the project with Warner Bros. Gaiman will be acting as executive producer, while Goyer will be supervising the screenplay.
Now right now it's just in the idea stage, meaning it doesn't even have a working script yet. But if this ends up being made I'm going to be so happy. The Sandman books are perfection.
in risk of sounding like a dipshit, anyone have examples? I've never even heard of him but I'm more of a marvels guy I google it but I either see funny outfit, badass gasmask guy, or badderassed crazy hair guy, I can't tell which the image in the article is amazingly cool

The Sandman graphic novels/comic books are some of the best stuff since the birth of the Modern Age of Comics. Plus, Neil Gaiman is great and he's one of the few modern writers I would trust with DC's famed superheroes due to his respect, his knowledge and ability. Like that time when he sent Superman and Green Lantern to hell :v:.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_1602
Yeah I remember it being damn good but it had a weird reception. Didn't Time Magazine list it as the worst comic of 2003? lol Anyway, The Sandman is great, Neil Gaiman surprisingly works really well writing comics and hopefully, the movie adaptation won't suck.
Unfortunately, he's not working with Neil. As Neil said in a recent Tumblr post, he doesn't hold any of the rights to Sandman and isn't entitled to any involvement. Hopefully they do ask him to come aboard though

they should make a Neverwhere movie
I'm still waiting on American Gods to become a TV show or movie. Bah humbug

He's usually 80's Robert Smith but the art style changes a lot so his face and clothes vary and occasionally he'll wear the gas mask helmet. I'm pretty sure he was a black guy for a couple of scenes and a cat for a little bit.

[t]http://www.majorspoilers.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/sandman_low.jpg[/t] The guy who received prophetic dreams as visions of crimes and specialised (apart from his fighting skills) in using his gas gun that knocked people out with sleeping gas. The other funny outfit guy could possibly be Garret Sandford.

It's absolutely necessary, especially if they're using high-tier actors, decent crew, decent directors, and decent cinematography. Nobody's going to give them millions and millions of dollars to make a movie if if only appeals to a minority
Oh shit nigga this better be good.
I tried reading sandman but it was a bore snore.
YEs YEs YESSS! MOTHER OF GOD YES!!! My favorite author and my favorite actor teaming up!?
I always thought that Sandman would be one of those things where a movie execution would be impossible. Let's face it, those books easily have more than standard movie time of material in them and we know they won't do full justice to it, so this, while awesome on the outset, is also quite worrying. Also, if this is going to happen, can we also have Lucifer as a sort of side series to go along with it? For some reason, I've always pictured this guy as somewhat perfect for the role of Lucifer, even somewhat matching the comic representation of him. In any case, a Lucifer series would be amazing too.
