GOP platform draft declares pornography a "public health crisis"
The Republican Party will declare internet pornography a "public health crisis" under an amendment added to the draft party platform Monday at preliminary meetings in Cleveland.
North Carolina delegate Mary Frances Forrester successfully proposed the amendment in a subcommittee of the platform committee Monday morning.
"The internet must not become a safe haven for predators," the provision states. "Pornography, with its harmful effects, especially on children, has become a public health crisis that is destroying the life of millions. We encourage states to continue to fight this public menace and pledge our commitment to children's safety and well-being. We applaud the social networking sites that bar sex offenders from participation. We urge energetic prosecution of child pornography which closely linked to human trafficking."
The amendment passed with little debate.
think of the children
God forbid adults do what they want!
I think I'd rather have children exposed to a few tiddies than statistically higher rape rates.

Is there actually a correlation between access to porn and lower rape rates?
Yes lets target the things that aren't an actual problem. Thank the grand old party for showing us the light and helping us move towards a better (pornless) future.
Another year, another platform completely removed from reality.
At least the DNC hasn't done anything incredibly stupid like this yet (though I haven't exactly read their full platform either)

Idk but there also hasn't ever been a correlation between porn and violence against women like some would argue as well

Pretty much everything involving decriminalization has a correlation to lower X rates. Drug usage, porn, etc.

Citation, then?

It sounds like Sanders helped make it the Best Platform in years.

century you mean?

does this mean VR porn is Americas greatest threat?
There is another plank that seemed to be inspired by Ted Bundy, the "Give the states control of all federal land immediatly", I'm not fucking joking.
The republicans pulling this shit out of their asses is way more harmful than watching people literally pulling things out of their asses.
I found this study pretty convincing.

Tell me if I'm wrong, but based on a cursory skim that just seems to be a simple correlation.
:snip:
There is a correlation, yes, but he goes on to talk about how rape was the sole crime that followed the trend when it came to internet usage.
It's because of this that he posits that internet porn may be a substitute for rape.
It's still a pretty useless data point without doing some in depth regressions. I'm sure there are tons of other variables that connect those two things. That's just how sociology works.
For example, why would a place with a low male to female ratio have a negative correlation? That means that more internet leads to more rape when the male to female ratio is low. Why is this? He includes the graph at the end, but never mentions it in the paper.
Was this written by a student? It seems very amateurish in it's conclusions. He tries to pretend that certain data points are meaningful and then ends the sentence by saying that they weren't statistically significant, as one example.
I will never understand how the party which claims to be about more personal freedom and less federal/central government control, is the strongest voice against pornography. I feel like conservatism has been hijacked by politicians to get nonsense votes to further their special interest's agenda. As silly/common as this argument is, I simply don't know or see any other reason for it being as it is. I would ideally enjoy smaller government in terms of what it dictates what I can enjoy and what living I should be able to make, but at this point I really feel like I have no option to look towards within that realm that even has a chance at elections. I either sacrifice one thing for another at almost a 50/50 exchange (I either side with public help programs but lose personal freedoms, or get more freedom but fuck over people who need help) and that fucking sucks.

I'm just frustrated.

yes, if i recall theres a ton of studies about it.

Prudes. Every single one of them.
No doubt in my mind that they still have a 1950s mindset of sex and porn being forbidden topics outside the bedroom.
The GOP is made up of aged men well past their prime who have virtually nonexistent sex lives and live in loveless marriages. What do you expect from them?

to be far more interested in porn if that's what their lives are like
Ban porn, I fucking dare you to try.
The economy will go down faster than a $5 hooker.
This is why younger people such as myself who don't agree with the Democratic platform support Libertarians over the GOP.

Not only adults.
This sort of exposure to normal human sexuality never hurt anyone child or otherwise. There are plenty of worse things on the internet than porn.

Taking away freedoms is not exactly new to Conservatism as longg as it fits their Agenda. Look at Gay Rights/Marriage, and Abortion Rights.

This isnt necessarily true. No source atm cause phone but the unrealistic expectations set by people in porn has been a p alienating thing for people who aint fully mature yet.
But of course this isn't limited to just porn, check the semi satirical but also true Charlie Brooker series How TV ruined your life. Specifically the one about relationships
yes, if i recall theres a ton of studies about it.
Okay, second time someone has said this without actually providing said studies and evidence

You have to look at it from their perceptive (or any ideology's perspective), to them they're granting rights, not restricting them.
From their point of view, by stopping gay marriage they are freeing society from "deviancy and perversion". From their point of view, they're not ending abortion rights, they're freeing the child and giving it a right to life.
Most, if not all, ideologies view themselves as giving their people more rights. They just happen in this case to be wrong.

never?
not once?
zero times?
I like how pornography is so pleasurable that we can all axiomatically agree that it is a unilateral force for good in the world. Praise porno!
