So I found this band, called Explosions in the Sky. It's an instrumental rock band, and they are great. It's really chill, and it's nice to listen to in any situation. Wikipedia: [release]Explosions in the Sky is an American instrumental post-rock band from Texas. The band has garnered popularity beyond the post-rock scene for their cinematic, elaborately developed guitar work, narratively styled instrumentals, what they refer to as "cathartic mini-symphonies," and their enthusiastic and emotional live shows. They primarily play with three electric guitars and a drum kit, although band member Michael James will at times exchange his electric guitar for a bass guitar.[/release] Here's some songs. Your Hand in Mine First Breath After a Coma (Shit quality)
Saw them live last week. Was most excellent, although the set was a bit too long. It's more a sitting down gig but it was a standing venue. Still, they sounded massive
I know all of a sudden i miss everyone. I'm in love with the birth and death of day. it builds and builds and then BAM, finale.
I don't see enough people talking about one of them called The Rescue It's one of my favourites idk (probably because the songs aren't very long) http://www.explosionsinthesky.com/the_rescue.html Also it's FREEEEEEE
Spoiler: Bombs burst in the air...... heh... maybe thats how they named themselves [editline]20th May 2011[/editline] some burst in the air
Also as a side note EITS is only the soundtrack to your life if you're the most boring person to ever live.
Finally a thread on this band, they are so good. They are able to express much more emotion than songs with lyrics. I fucking love them, especially Your Hand In Mine.
have you passed through this night? is awesome
Six Days At The Bottom Of The Ocean is god The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place is their best album imo awesome band, got me into post rock
Man i've been trying to find the first song forever, thanks OP
EITS is really lame as far as Post-Rock goes. Just rock sound with a loud end. And even as a instrumental rock band, they're pretty uninteresting. Mogwai is better, but not by much. [editline]22nd May 2011[/editline] still good, but comparatively lame. I like EOTS but i like God Is an Astronaut a lot more.

And post rock IS boring to listen to half of the time, it comes with the genre. I think EITS do it perfectly, they always have great build ups.
Mogwai does instrumental rock better. Post-Rock is also not boring. It's full of emotion and excitement. You're not listening to the good Post-Rock bands like Godspeed and Mono for example.
I haven't heard of mono but I find Godspeed horrendously boring to listen to, I've tried many times to like F#A# infinity but I just can't, there are extremely long periods where nothing, of any interest happens I disagree, I have all of Mogwai and EIST and I like explosions far better
I like this band. One of my friends introduced me to them a few years back.

They're great too, Age Of The Fifth Sun is my favourite post rock album right after The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place Dark Rift is my fav song out of all post rock though [editline]22nd May 2011[/editline] then again All is violent all is bright is pretty great too

It would also seem that post-rock is not for you as the only post-rock you like is actually just rock music.
I'm not really sure how to respond to that as I've been listening to post rock for over a year now, and it's probably my favourite kind of music thanks for straightening me out, I guess my library of artists is useless
I actively listen to all of the bands in this thread. If you would've asked me a month ago I wouldn't have heard of any of them. Post-Rock is the best man. First Breath After Coma is a good song. The Post Rock by 65daysofstatic is good. I have a hard time understanding why some bands like that and parachute also play really heavy, crap music though. That being said, I think I like God Is An Astronaut a lot more.
post metal is pretty cool too bands like Russian Circles or If These Trees Could Talk are interesting examples of heavier post rock, but ITTCT aren't really post metal. Still good
I blame scotchair for making me like EiTS, when I heard saw his video with the remix to The Birth and Death of the Day I had to listen to them. I do not regret doing it.
they're one of the best post rock bands imo I don't know why people bash them, they're great
If you like these guys I'd suggest checking out God Is An Astronaut, they're very similar musically.
Just Imagine this. You're on a moor (big wide hill for non UK) at 2am in the morning, the only light is your car headlights, you're driving, imagine the music playing is post rock, Dont you just love that image
I have kind of a love/hate relationship with EitS and really post rock in general. If its on in the background while I do other things or if I am tripping I generally really enjoy listening to them, but otherwise I really can't stand it.

Listen to stuff like Slint, Talk Talk (last two albums), and Bark Psychosis for something that really sucks you in.

I don't think it gets better than that.
I like a lot of their songs but without vocals and the music being so mellow, I get bored listening to them
