• Rio police tell tourists they won't be able to protect them
The Olympic Games are 31 days away -- and Rio de Janeiro is in crisis. Violence is on the rise, and police officers are at loggerheads with the Rio state government after claiming they've not been paid for months. The message from police to tourists is clear: We won't be able to protect you. The state's police officers vented their anger Monday with a sign saying, "Welcome to Hell," outside Rio's main airport. "Police and firefighters don't get paid, whoever comes to Rio de Janeiro will not be safe," the sign said. And it's not just those coming from abroad who may be in danger -- locals are losing patience, too. That's the harsh reality in the favelas around Rio, according to one resident, as the city gears up to host the 2016 Olympics amid increasing concerns over police brutality and the officers' ability, and desire, to keep people safe. "It seems like there is an order (from authorities) to put fear in people so they stay calm, so they don't cause trouble in the city because the foreigners can't see that the city is chaotic," Higor da Silva, a resident of the Mare favela, told CNN. "They (state police) don't care if there is a child in the middle -- they shoot their target." State security officials told CNN they have taken measures over the years to expel officers who use excessive force and say they have decreased the use of heavy weapons.

Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes told CNN this week the state was doing a "terrible" job in regard to security in the lead-up to the games, set to kick off August 5. "It's completely failing at its work of policing and taking care of people," Paes said.
http://edition.cnn.com/2016/07/05/sport/rio-olympics-2016-security/ http://www.latimes.com/world/mexico-americas/la-fg-brazil-rio-olympics-sign-20160705-snap-story.html http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/international/ct-welcome-to-hell-rio-olympics-20160705-story.html
:dead:.....................well then.
There is a multistep guide to ensuring safety at the 2016 Rio Olympics: 1. Don't go to Rio. 2. Don't even think about going to Rio.
Hosting any substantial sporting event in Brazil should be considered attempted genocide.
and nothing will be done and no one of any consequence will say anything because something something every country is equal and great and deserves to host an event such as this
this is fucking ridiculous
It's gonna take a fucking ISIS attack during an event to stop this trainwreck in motion, and even then I'm not entirely certain of that. The corruption's so embedded in this sort of thing that you really can't stop any of it, no matter how disastrous.
I hadn't thought of that, but this would be a REALLY easy target for terrorists.
I've never said it before because I don't even want to fathom the thought but I bet there will be some kind of terrorist attack at the olympics. It just seems too easy.

Rio will be a massive fuck up for the olympics. Crime and terrorism will be on a large scale. And the disease and ecological problems that the city faces is not going to help either.
what a fucking mess
Every single day I wake up and check the news there's a different article telling how fucked up Rio is
Well this will just attract many more criminals to go there. Man...
My aunt on a business trip to Rio for 3M got their company car jacked and one of their employees got shot in the process. From now on they contract some firm to provide them with a body guard and to move them around. Just thought that was interesting.

How has a government entity not stepped in yet lmao fucking hell [editline]6th July 2016[/editline] this should be ruled as a human rights abuse at this point like what the fuck haha

Off duty brazilian cops/Convenience store footage is a big market for them

They probably look at it and just think someone else did something really bad before them. Plus, they might get their explosives nicked.
Anyone with the slightest knowledge of Rio already knew this, but unfortunately the general public is quit isolated from the outside.
Not even ISIS would do something. They probably look at it and just think someone else did something really bad before them.
"Ah shit, Abdul. We just got our explosives, weapons, ammo and equipment nicked, how are we gonna blow up the olympics?"
This dialogue is very unlikely to be heard, because they will have a dozen of diseases at that point.
"Ah shit, Abdul. We just got our explosives, weapons, ammo and equipment nicked, how are we gonna blow up the olympics?"
God damn it, Abu Hajir!
I really hope that someone speaks up and directly to the IOC about this. Specifically if the Torch Bearer, refuses to light the large torch, and publically condemns the corruption and lunacy of the IOC.
Are home nations not a bit worried about terrorist attacks too? If the police can't even protect the streets how do they expect them to secure an entire stadium/multiple venues?
Unfortunately I think the same thing that happened with Beijing will happen with Rio. A big string of controversies and fuckups leading up to the games is completely forgotten about when people are dazzled by a pretty opening ceremony and inspirational speeches.
