• Gamescom 2014: Microsoft Caught Using – Once Again – PCs
This is something we’ve seen happening in almost every God damn gaming event these past years. Both Sony and Microsoft have been using PCs to showcase their games. And as you’d expect, during this year’s Gamescom, Microsoft decided to ‘camouflage’ a number of PCs in order to showcase one – or even more – of its titles. CentrumHer shared today the following images, showing the Windows Desktop environment of a PC that was running Ori and the Blind Forest (Ori and the Blind Forest crashed back to desktop while a boy was playing the game). Instead of claiming that what attendees were playing was the PC version and nothing more, Microsoft went one step further and included Xbox One units in order to misguide everyone. What I find also funny is that the PC systems that were used were using Nvidia’s hardware. As we can clearly see in the first image, the latest version of the GeForce Experience was not even installed on them. Which is kind of weird as both Xbox One and PS4 are powered by AMD’s GPUs. I guess the PC version of Ori and the Blind Forest runs best on Nvidia’s hardware then. Ori and the Blind Forest is the only game that has been proven running on the PC instead of Xbox One during Gamescom. However – and given the fact that MS tries desperately to ‘hide’ PC systems beneath its games’ booths – we are pretty sure that even more titles are/were running on PC hardware instead of actual game consoles.
[thumb]http://www.centrumher.eu/wp-content/uploads/xbox-One-Ori-1.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://www.centrumher.eu/wp-content/uploads/xbox-One-Ori-2.jpg[/thumb] Source: http://www.dsogaming.com/news/gamescom-2014-microsoft-caught-using-once-again-pcs-to-showcase-its-xbox-one-games
Hah, I wonder how they'll respond to this one. That's downright lying about the quality of your product.

This is standard practice to ensure a smooth demo experience for them. There's no "desperate attempt to hide" anything. A lot of the booths had mice and keyboards on them at E3. The hardware of the demo machines is almost exactly comparable unless you make a special request. There is no "Evil" intention here its a step to make doing a smooth demo easier for the developers. They have vigarous release policies to ensure that products that dont match up to demo expectations are not shipped on the device. It should also be noted that the use of PC is a choice made by the developer! Not MS and is in my experience usually down to wanting access to the PC unprotected network stack instead of trying to use XBL at an event which is always a little dodgey! Either that or the devs wish to use PC Unity builds as the Xbox Alpha is still a little fuzzy in places.
It's even using an Nvidia GPU, while Xboxes are AMD
It's even using an Nvidia GPU, while Xboxes are AMD
On a PC that really doesn't matter.
So much for how incomparable the current gen consoles are to PC and how there's hidden potential in their hardware that PCs simply cannot have.
Once again shows the absurdity of developers' excuse not releasing games on PC because its too complicated.
So much for how incomparable the current gen consoles are to PC and how there's hidden potential in their hardware that PCs simply cannot have.
The game in question is a 2D platformer. Not the most complex game around. [editline]15th August 2014[/editline] It will also have a PC release anyways.
Is this just to make them run smoother, or what? Do they just not trust their games on Xbox at this time?
sounds odd, but i'm sure they had their reasons for doing this. if it's a 2D platformer, i'm sure the console would have had no issue running the game. on a side note, i really hope this doesnt turn into a console vs pc debate.
Sure love gamer news, I'm glad to be a gamer and receive this important news. (User was banned for this post ("Why reply?" - SteveUK))
I find it funnier that they're not using Windows 8.
On a PC that really doesn't matter.
But it does Nvidia all day every day [editline]15th August 2014[/editline]
I find it funnier that they're not using Windows 8.
Didn't something similar happen with Vista? When Vista was around being promoted and stuff some Microsoft presentation or something like that used XP
On a PC that really doesn't matter.
They're likely using Nvidia because they're slightly more stable than AMD and they don't want even the slightest chance of something going wrong. So yeah it does make a slight difference.
The developers are using windows 7 apparently. The developers setup the game presentations for their individual booths in the area given to them. Obviously they didn't have a stable version of the game to take to the show so they improvised. Shame on the developers should be what this article is about.
I like how microsoft is using windows 7 but they are advertising teh shit out of windows 8
"Microsoft caught using a common practice used in trade shows/exhibitions"
Sure love gamer news, I'm glad to be a gamer and receive this important news.
You're all rating this dumb but she's got a point. This is basically such common practice that I don't understand why this is news anymore when it happens.
You're telling me halo was on a PC you're telling me there's a chance
You're telling me halo was on a PC you're telling me there's a chance
Stop this 343
http://news.cnet.com/Xbox-360-demos-running-on-Macs/2100-1043_3-5706658.html Using "PC's" for console game demos isn't anything new.
http://news.cnet.com/Xbox-360-demos-running-on-Macs/2100-1043_3-5706658.html Using "PC's" for console game demos isn't anything new.
Hence why the title says "Once Again"
Hence why the title says "Once Again"
Like it was outrageous the first time right
Hah, I wonder how they'll respond to this one. That's downright lying about the quality of your product.
It might be "standard industry practice", but it should be liable to having your ass sued for fuckin' lying to the consumer with what could be seen as a bait-and-switch. There should honestly be a Guild of Tell The Fucking Truth You Pathetic Worms to enforce honesty in product marketing.
Once again shows the absurdity of developers' excuse not releasing games on PC because its too complicated.
But.... The games have been releasing on PC lately. Don't know what game that is but I'll bet you anything that Quantum Break and Sunset will be on PC in under a year and a half.
It's pretty funny that they are using windows 7.
Lol Windows have like a "every other OS" routine where it goes good and bad. Windows 98 - Good ME - BAD Windows XP - Good Vista - BAD 7 - good 8 - BAD
Lol Windows have like a "every other OS" routine where it goes good and bad. Windows 98 - Good ME - BAD Windows XP - Good Vista - BAD 7 - good 8 - BAD
I like how you conveniently skipped Windows 2000 to make the theory work. In reality it's this: Windows 98 - Good Windows 2000 - Good Windows ME - Unstable, bad Windows XP - Good Windows Vista - Rocky launch, ended up good once driver support took off Windows 7 - Good Windows 8 - Good Windows 8.1 - Good

Maybe its just my experience but 8 is a pretty big hate-fest in my area. Nobody likes it around here and everybody has stayed with their Windows 7 waiting for the one after.
Lol Windows have like a "every other OS" routine where it goes good and bad. Windows 98 - Good ME - BAD Windows XP - Good Vista - BAD 7 - good 8 - BAD
So Windows 95 was bad and 3.1 was good?
You're telling me halo was on a PC you're telling me there's a chance
It probably was at E3 as well, remember giant bomb saw PC prompts at the demo booyh
