Is it bad that I've never heard of this guy?
He's the guy that Brendon Small used as inspiration for Pickles in Metalocalypse.
He's the guy that Brendon Small used as inspiration for Pickles in Metalocalypse.
He actually voiced him in the pilot, IIRC.
Fuck it, I'm down. I'm doing this.
Is it bad that I've never heard of this guy?
Yes. He had the most badass hair before, Captain Balding basically.

Oh wow this is the guy that played rage in that Ayreon album.
Oh great, I'm building a home studio, I'll honor him with my first recording. go growls go

saw him live, fun show
Fucking love Devin, but I don't have any way to do the vocal parts :( I wanted to get drunk and get my mates to do it but they're all in a different city
I'm not big on Metal, but Devin is pretty talented. He used to have serious drug problems (like so many other musicians) back when he was in his old band Strapping Young Lad, but apparently he cleaned up and still goes strong solo.
hey i remember this guy, i saw him in concert once. Some of the shit he was saying was quite funny but not really family oriented lol.
Far from being just a metal artist, however...

He's bipolar, so they only exacerbated his condition and he was institutionalized more than a few times back in the early 2000's. He's now completely clean and has his condition under control.
hey i remember this guy, i saw him in concert once. Some of the shit he was saying was quite funny but not really family oriented lol.
Oh god, yeah. He has an entire song about wanking, and one of his earlier SYL songs is a mocking criticism of songs that disguise rape in their lyrics.
Yeah, his music's started to range through country, folk, jazz, and ambient now. Ghost is literally the best album ever to sleep to.

But when he's on stage, he has a presence that literally nobody can ignore. Also, if I can get access to some good Recording equipment I might hop in on Z2.
this guy's live shows are the best
this guy's live shows are the best
I remember just before Destruction came out, he came down to Vancouver, came to a little shop called Scrape Records, and did an acoustic show, maybe 50 people were there crammed in that tiny little room listening to him do an acoustic set that lasted an hour. Was one of the best experiences I've ever had in a musical environment. Then he answered our questions and hung around and talked for like 15 minutes. It was amazing. The guy is so down to earth.

I fucking love the Dev. He seems so humble and down-to-earth about his works. He's even said that he doesn't really care how people get his music, just as long as they enjoy it when they get it. He makes music for his own and his audience's enjoyment.
I like him in this video a lot
I've listened to SYL quite a lot but never heard DT on his own until this song. I'm proud to say I just sat there and listened, got totally absorbed. I just kept thinking about this guy just standing there on top of a huge mountain, axe in hand while the world just crumbles around him :P
Virtual choirs are neat. Here's a more traditional example.
