I can't believe some of you are actually siding with the police on this one. Saying that they "deserved it" just because they were in the way. The people in front did get out of the way but others more deep into the crowd don't have a lot of moveability or couldn't see the van coming, there are a lot of things you have to take into consideration when you plan to drive a car that fast through a crowd.
Secondly unless there is an emergency I don't see why there is a necessity to drive through a bunch of people just to cause some crowd dispersion.

I can hardly say he was driving fast, and not being able to see the van? It had flashing lights and a siren on it.

So wait.. that van just ran somebody over and kept on driving, but because they were a protester/the driver was a cop they won't be charged with hit and run?

He might not have been driving fast but he did suddenly accelerate. That sudden shift in speed is what caused a person to get run over. We can debate all day whether they saw the van or not I still think the real question is why drive a van into a bunch of people in the first place.

Might've had to get somewhere that was blocked off by the protest. That being said, there would be other, longer ways to get to the same location, which would either imply that they were needed near the protest itself or they simply couldn't afford to waste time going another way.

Rule number 1 of driving is that pedestrians ALWAYS have the right of way. You never drive through a crowd of people like that unless your life is in danger.
Are they still considered pedestrians if they're camping out on the road pretty much? I'm actually asking a serious question, not trying to be a douche.

They had no other choice moron. There were hundreds of people protesting in the middle of the streets and an ambulance WITH SIRENS ON was trying to get through to the injured. I'm not going to get out of the ambulance 200 feet away to get to the person especially when all the gear we require is inside the fucking ambulance.

The van was an ambulance, the protesters were actively trying to prevent it from going through, and it was moving too slow to cause any injury to anyone. The rioters just put on a show for the camera.

That was a police van, it looks like a standard transport van for multiple prisoners.
Though they could have been transporting people for medical emergency, sometimes police do that if they know it is going to take a long time for an ambulance.
The protestors should have moved but what is the point of a protest if they're going to move. The van should have slowly just rolled so it bumped people out of the way. IT does not take much speed to move people and plus the weight of the van alone makes things dangerous. I'm thinking someone got bounced off of the bumper. Both sides are stupid, protestors should have moved and the cops should have used a bit more restraint.
