None created more embarrassment for Rio than Lochte's statement that a robber had at one point put a gun to Lochte's forehead and demanding the group's wallets. Rio's police chief denounced the story on Thursday. "There was no robbery as the swimmers described it," civil police chief Fernando Veloso told a news conference, adding that it would be noble and dignified if the swimmers were to apologize to the people of Rio.
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-olympics-rio-lochte-police-idUSKCN10T07K read the rest of the article for better details. there is a thread that they are being flown out, but this is just that they lied about being robbed, and they instead vandalized a gas station.
Yeah leave your nice, comfy lifestyle in a first world country and then go to a place where armed robbery is a major fucking issue and people actually die from it and then lie and say it happened to you, great job. Oh, and all the while the whole reason why you were there is to swim in an event that's cause so many problems for the locals because their government just had to host it come hell or high water. Mm, oh and another thing while you're doing all of that you're living up to the worst image Americans have overseas: a nation of rich, smug sons of bitches who pass the buck for their own fuckups on somebody else. Fuck this guy.
Too bad you're not Michael Phelps, maybe then you'd not have to lie to get your name in the news.
"Allegedly"? Weren't there security videos of the ordeal?
are we sure this isn't just the rio police chief lying to save face?
"Allegedly"? Weren't there security videos of the ordeal?
there were security videos of them coming back to the Olympic village after the robbery, and they all seemed calm and iirc one of them even pulled out their wallet to grab an ID, which is something I guess he wouldn't have had he been robbed
and he almost got away with it if it weren't for his mother.
Instead of facing prison time, the authorities realized that the best and most effective form of rehabilitation would be to allow the mother to angrily pinch his ear and yell at him all the way home and have him stare at the corner of a wall for half an hour.
are we sure this isn't just the rio police chief lying to save face?
Nah, there was actual video of them still with all their valuables after the robbery supposedly occurred.
Lol, go such a big loop to avoid paying damages for a fucking door. Really, its just $20 and you had to make up a story?
And he still will never be better than Michael Phelps.
Nah, there was actual video of them still with all their valuables after the robbery supposedly occurred.
They were still held at gunpoint on the side of the road until they handed over money. The question is why did Lochte embellish the truth in a media interview, and what was their police report that they lied in? If they agreed to pay for the damages, then why make a big deal? Rio is trying to pretend it's not a violent city, but what about the multiple other althetes held at gunpoint, including a brit who was robbed at gunpoint that same week? [editline]19th August 2016[/editline] If a man speaking a foreign language ordered me out of a vehicle and to sit on the ground at gunpoint and made me hand over money before I could leave, I'd say that's an awful lot like a robbery. So I still wouldn't say he outright lied until we hear what he said in the police report. I would like to hear what Lochte has to say, other than a half assed generic Instagram sorry.
