Can you ban for ideology? - General

Not a single word there looks extreme or ideological. However, there was this racist guy before who refused to believe "nigger" could be a derogatory term.

Must it be reiterated that this forum isn't a democracy? The moderators aren't bound to us common users by anything really and they seem to get a fair bit of discretion from the administration on what they can ban for. This is Garry's forum and he's happy to boot people out for any reason (See the Idiot Culls) that he sees fit. So yeah, he can ban for ideology all he wants.

garrys forum, not your forum but to better your point: nazism has been executed successfully when in real life do you find supporting it socially acceptable? why should a forum be any different

That isn't how a community should work..i mean everyone has different beliefs and ideas as long as you post them like a normal person and are not breaking any rules like racist/troll/flame, etc it should be fine.

I'm going to agree that it shouldn't be run that way, but there isn't much we can do about it. Not our forum, cousin. We're just being allowed to use it.

Saying "I'm not a Nazi/<insert something horrible>, but I understand their perspective!" is a cheap cop-out because merely saying you understand someone's viewpoint after it's already established that they're objectively wrong serves as nothing more than a dead end in a discussion. OK, so you understand their viewpoint. Fine, I understand a murderer's motivations, does that mean he was any more justified in what he had done? Of course not. This is an incredibly easy thing to understand, so the fact that some people employ this rhetorical device so persistently makes me think they're doing more than merely trying to "understand" perspective.

You really dont need more of an argument than that. ideas should always be evaluated based on their truth value, not how far they deviate from the norms relative to their time period.

It's a privately owned forum, shouldn't take much thought to realize that the owners of the forum can do with it whatever they please.

You can get banned for having an opinion that conflicts with a mods or the majority of a thread. So you better start having the same opinion as all the super liberal atheists on here or else :smile:

He's upset because that religion comes from a restrictive culture. But yeah, Nazis are bad and who really cares why people get banned here, they're banned if they're dicks.

The forum is technically a dictatorship, you can be banned for any reason. That's how its always been.
