THQ's franchises will be auctioned off 'title by title' on Jan. 22 (update)
THQ bidder Clearlake Capital Group has agreed to sell franchises belonging to bankrupt publisher THQ on a title-by-title basis to potential buyers, one of which is Electronic Arts, according to a tweet from Distressed Debt Investing. Clearlake Capital, the group that sought to purchase THQ's assets shortly after the company declared bankruptcy in December, has agreed to allow potential buyers to purchase rights to titles individually and hold bidding until Jan. 15. According to DDI, Judge Marry F. Walrath said Clearlake's proposed timing is not enough, and today's hearing will focus on the use of cash collateral, cash collected from the liquidated assets. DDI added via Twitter that these proposals were just that — proposals from Clearlake — and that nothing is "in stone yet." The hearing took place at 10:30 a.m. in the District of Delaware's U.S. Bankruptcy Court and was heard by Judge Marry F. Walrath. In a hearing last Friday, Judge Walrath did not approve bidding procedures for the case, instructing all parties to "talk with one another to work out issues" before today's hearing. As of this morning, involved parties have still not reached an agreement. DDI also reports that Electronic Arts, a potential buyer of "certain" individual THQ titles, has completed site visits to THQ headquarters. Last week DDI tweeted that banker Sam Greene of Centerview Partners, the investment company that assisted THQ with the quick sale, testified that five buyers are interested in purchasing individual games and franchises from company, but not the publisher's entire lineup. A group of the company's lenders filed an objection in Delaware court against the sale, stating the quick turnaround doesn't afford opportunities for competitive bids and that franchises should be sold on a title-by-title basis, not as a complete series. THQ defended the short sale window as necessary, stating the company would likely run out of money within the month. Update: THQ will auction off its titles and assets "title by title" in an auction on Jan. 22 as agreed upon by participating parties in today's hearing, according to a tweet from DDI. Polygon has reached out to both THQ and Electronic Arts regarding EA's role as potential buyer, and will update this story with more information as we have it.
Electronic Arts, a potential buyer Source
Oh God please let Darksiders make it through this okay.
Hopefully they wont auction off their flagship games to the wrong hands, if they do.
If EA fucks up metro there will be blood.
If EA buy Metro or Company of Heroes then fuck that judge.
I wonder what will happen to the WWE contract.
If EA buy Metro or Company of Heroes then fuck this shit.
I'd be heartbroken because I'd be unable to buy it :( Also day one DLC, multiplayer team added back, coop mode and Hamburger helper put on as lead writer.
Let's hope that EA doesn't get a single IP, and Valve acquires at least one; if Valve got the 40K rights that could potentially be amazing. That being said, it is sad that this is happening to THQ; personally I blame those penny-cunts that ruined the THQ Bundle. Such cunts don't DESERVE to play video games if their unacceptable anti-pittance sabotages the chances of one of the only good-guy publishers out there.
Noooooooo, not EA. Educational Video:
I just want another Saints Row game, but it needs to be for PC and better optimized than SR2. The story needs to be a little more serious too... [editline]7th January 2013[/editline] I'm not saying it should be like GTA. I'm saying I don't think a game that originally started off as a game where you worked your way up the gang ladder, shouldn't have you swinging five foot dildos around.

(Also only the humble company loses money from penny purchases)
metro to valve, please. Not activision, not ea, not ubisoft. It deserves a nice home where people cant rip it limb by limb and reanimate it with multiplayer and overpriced shitty DLC ;_;
Good luck to Saint's Row. Hopefully you'll recover.
I wonder who's going to get the Warhammer 40K rights, if anyone?
Oh God please let Darksiders make it through this okay.
I'm conflicted. I like the series, but... ...Fury and Strife!
Oh hell naw, not EA, please not EA. I want Metro to stay SP only and no overpriced useless DLC please.
I just realized this is a perfect way for valve to get some franchises in. Probaly won't do so because they need workforce for other projects tho.
oh please metro metro dont let me down DONT LET ME DOWN
We shouldn't have to worry about Activision buying up ol THQ because they're too busy milking CoD to death and the sale is in a technically short window. But EA on the other hand...Anyone but them.
EA please go please THQ has rad licenses, at least have some common decency
It'd be awful if EA got Company of Heroes. I can imagine them destroying it like they did Command and Conquer.
Poor THQ. I really hope EA aka the borg doesn't assimilate all of the titles
-snip-
I'm really worried about warhammer 40k :(
I wonder who's going to get the Warhammer 40K rights, if anyone?
THQ likely does not have the right to sell the rights to make a WH40k game, so that's probably safe.
Oh, god... damnit. I've got a feeling that Bethesda's gonna grab somethin', and I don't like that.
It's only the beginning ;_;
Someone please for the love of god save the Homeworld franchise.
VALVE, PICK UP METRO. PLEASE.
I want to see another Titan Quest. Would be rad if nobody wanted it and I secured the rights for like $20 v:v:v
