A man has been arrested on suspicion of preparing an Isis-inspired terror attack in the Netherlands after police found a loaded Kalashnikov and explosives alongside the group’s flag. The Dutch Public Prosecution Service (Openbaar Ministerie) said the 30-year-old suspect was taken into custody on Wednesday. Searches of his home in Rotterdam uncovered an AK-47 with two loaded magazines, four boxes of “highly explosive” illegal fireworks, mobile phones and €1,600 (£1,300) in cash alongside a painting of the Isis flag. The suspect, who has not been identified, will remain in custody for at least two weeks as investigations continue. His arrest came a day after Belgian police detained a suspected cell of Isis supporters who were recruiting foreign fighters for the so-called Islamic State. The Belgian federal public prosecutor’s office said a court extended the detention of three suspects on Friday on charges of recruiting people to travel to Syria and financially supporting Isis. Numerous terror plots have been uncovered in Europe since the group declared its “caliphate” in 2014 and Europol has warned further attacks remain likely across the continent. [...] No attacks have so far been launched in the Netherlands but the country is among Isis’ targets as a member of the US-led international coalition bombing its militants in Syria and Iraq. Good, thank god. Seems like the Dutch anti-terror police are on the ball.
four boxes of “highly explosive” illegal fireworks,
Psh, that's almost every teenager's bedroom around this time of year.
I'm glad that they caught him before anything happened. Great job, Dutch authorities!
Why is it they always have an ISIS flag? Is ISIS distributing them? Are authorities selling them undercover as a honeypot?
Are authorities selling them undercover as a honeypot?
Thats actually genius
Thats actually genius
What if someone buys it as a joke to tell/show their friends? Granted it be the dumbest thing you can do in this time and year but I wouldn't be a bit surprised.
Psh, that's almost every teenager's bedroom around this time of year.
Honest question, how does the Netherlands and most of western Europe for that matter treat fireworks? In the US you're not supposed to have them in some states, but in others you can nearly buy professional pyrotechnic munitions with barely a driver's licence (not a bad thing mind you, but it's interesting). I'm glad the police were on top of it though, preventing senseless violence and death is always a good thing.
SMH having to deal with this shit right in the middle of Europe in the first place
Thank god for the AIVD. Let's see if Geert Wilders can actually do something about the islamic uprise in Europe starting next year..

Banning books he disagrees with, rescinding the Dutch constitution's guarantee to equality under the law (and replacing it with a clause on the superiority of the Christian and Jewish traditions), implementing a no-trial administrative detention process, boot camps for suspected terrorists, banning preaching in any language other than Dutch... yeah. Anyone who supports a man who believes in rescinding equality under the law in order to defend "Western values" has no respect for Western values and just wants to get rid of (insert group here). Equality under the law is the backbone of liberalism, and of the West. If you want to abandon that to get rid of the Muslims, you care more about getting rid of Muslims than you do of Western values.

In the Netherlands, possession and the sale of fireworks is expressly forbidden until a week or so before new year's eve. Even then, you can't sell or buy the type of professional fireworks you would see at a commercial event. Some people travel to Belgium to buy fireworks there (you're allowed to buy/sell far heavier stuff in Belgium), but if they catch you bringing it over the border, you're boned. Nonetheless, there are a lot of people who import 'illegal' fireworks like that. The police doesn't really give a shit, unless you distribute it.
Well I wonder if he was native European, ot rather not.

Just his whole shtick about 'de-islamisizing the Netherlands' requires at least 3 amendments to our constitution. And one of the first steps of doing that is the equivalent of having Obama say 'yo, I wanna do this', both the Senate and the House saying 'okay' and then when Donald Trump becomes president, THEN they can actually start looking into it.
