On Sunday morning, the Kansas City Star published a horrific account of the rape and subsequent harassment of 14-year-old Daisy Coleman and her family. By early Monday morning, the hacktivist group Anonymous had taken up the cause on the Coleman’s behalf.
If hope this follows the same path of the Steubenville case.

aHA
This is rather neat of them. But are we seriously calling them "hacktivists" now? Are you shitting me?
pretty sure he just means cause it's a lame portmanteau
yeah this will just make things worse

For the rapist.
Seriously, God help anyone who gets in the crosshairs of 4chan.
As opposed to all the other options... like... activack?
as opposed to just calling them activists or hackers???
Not entirely sure what they're going to do. Hope they expose something.
It still baffles me that Matt and Rex barnett walk free. It all feels like some badly orchestrated legal drama film.

The original article read like a Law and Order SVU episode.

Imo it's the most fitting and sounds just fine.
They tend to call themselves an "idea".
How do you DDoS a town?

I seriously hope this gets the attention it needs - you shouldn't be able to get away with rape because you're a football jock or some politician's kid

While they might not be able to do anything themselves directly, a large group of people can always drum up support from people who can, I suppose.
While this might mean comeuppance for the perpetrators, anon's scattershot techniques basically guarantee that a few innocent people will be harmed as well
remember reddit vs. the boston bomber

I thought 4Chan didn't want anything to do with Anonymous?

reddit is notoriously retarded
I thought 4Chan didn't want anything to do with Anonymous?
Everyone who posts on 4Chan is Anonymous, literally. That's where they get the name of Anonymous.
I thought 4Chan didn't want anything to do with Anonymous?
Anonymous is just 4chan users, as they're... anonymous. They can't be considered to be one unified group any more than facepunch users
Before hundreds of "lol ddos script kiddies", anonymous has had some fucking sharp tools in their kit before, just because some dumb asses bandwagon doesn't mean they can't be coordinated and certainly doesn't mean they can't be effective.
If I gain a bunch of weight and buy a V For Vendetta Guy Fawkes Mask™ would that make me part of the epic anonymous hackers group Legion, too?

Somebody changed the password on my Battle.Net account and got it banned. Was that Anonymous? Have I been targeted? Are they coming for ME?

reddit is stupidly reactionary and bandwagon-y and fucking loves pointless witch hunts.
If I had to trust one to really get shit done, I'd rather have 4chan.
Anon did get a football stadium closed by threatening to bomb it. Also the jessi slaughter shit. I'd never thought I'd say I'd be happy for anon to do something

I think you're confusing anonymous and the MRA subreddits

Both Reddit and 4chan have the exact same kind of people because both allow you to post totally anonymously. (Reddit doesn't require an email address for account registration)

You can't really just generalize an entire community like that though. Just because that happened when a specific few people took control of the bomber hunt before it went bad doesn't mean that everyone who went or ever will go on there is retarded. 4chan just had the right people in the right place whenever they decided to go detective or fuck people up, that doesn't mean it's more of a collective group of CSI scientists than anywhere else.

Yes because semantics are the main issue here
Yes because semantics are the main issue here
Considering what he was discussing was the usage of the term, then yes it is
Vigilantism is truly a system with no drawbacks.

Here's how it works: someone gets mad about something, posts a thread on /b/, people agree with that person, set up an irc, and they all use LOIC to DDOS a site while a few actually skilled people decide to try to actually hack it.
Anonymous isn't one person or a group of people, it's just whoever happens to be browsing /b/ at the moment.
What the fuck are these idiots going to do? I just don't see what they plan on doing, and I read the article.
