Veteran left-wing MP Jeremy Corbyn has been elected leader of the Labour Party by a landslide.
Mr Corbyn, who began the contest as a rank outsider, saw off a challenge from frontbenchers Andy Burnham, Yvette Cooper and Liz Kendall.
He gained 251,417 or 59.5% of first preference votes - 40% more than his nearest rival Mr Burnham, who got 19%.
Ms Cooper was third on 17% and Ms Kendall a distant fourth with 4.5% of the vote.
There was meant to be multiple rounds of voting but he straight up won in the first round with 59%
Utterly routed the other three candidates
Whether or not Corbyn was the best candidate, the next five years should be pretty damn interesting.
I'm not surprised but it still feels weird
If I had to guess he'll never get into power unless the Tories do an absolutely horrific job leading up to the next election, and even then I still have doubts
PMQs next week gonna be fuckin unmissable
This is one of the best things to happen to politics in a while.
Well that's interesting
Press are gonna go fucking mental
I expected nothing less, let's hope he can wrangle his party now to Form a decent opposition
And thus labour won't gain power in the next election

Revealed: Jeremy Corbyn's plan to abolish British values
[editline]12th September 2015[/editline]
Anyway even if he fails it's gonna be a helluva ride
All this shows is that everyone is collectively underestimating Britain's capacity for actual compassion towards other human beings. I can see it going all the way.
If not? At least we should be shifting the political orthodoxy a little away from the right so our politicians can at least start pretending they care about other people again.
and here... we... GO

Tom Watson's a balls-out legend and will ensure Labour doesn't do any anti-internet bullshit apart from anything else
I haven't been following the leadership debate because I've kind of given up on our politics but the impression I got was that he's the only one who wants labour to go back to being proper left wing instead of whatever it is at the moment.
Ed Miliband has just given Corbyn his support on BBC

Yea

Better to be a proper opposition than lick Murdoch's feet to get into power and do the exact same thing as the Tories.
Thank god I don't work for The Sun anymore they're probably going into maximum overdrive right now.
COMMUNIST labour leader Jeremy Corbyn outed as secret MUSLIM leader of ISIS that wants to STEAL your TAXES
John Prescott's on BBC singing Corbyn's praises and saying Tony Blair fucked up
For all intents and purposes, the next few years are going to be incredibly interesting.
Also sort of glad that Corbyn got the leadership position, if only to spite the absolutely piss poor behaviour of some of the Labour members who tried to discredit him or throw their toys out of the pram when they chose to put his name forward in the elections.
This news makes me happy.
I consider myself a lefty but I'm going to be honest his apparent economic and foreign views have me concerned. particularly his links to Hamas and holocaust deniers.

I doubt he'll ever make PM. This has pretty much guaranteed Tory government for a while.
Two more shadow cabinet resignations, Rachel Reeves and Tristram Hunt gone

The international state of politics is already left-leaning, I see no reason to take it further
Going to be hearing a lot Tom & Jerry jokes over the next five years

Well you should stop being concerned as the anti-semitic stuff is all bullshit flak stories from the right and his economic views have been backed by top economists.
